Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

Hey Bud, let me know how it went for you ?
I went on chat this morning but the rep was not helpful at all aside from cancelling the wireless service effective today. As I expected they weren't budging about a proration and credit of my unused services. I previously disputed the activation fee and I was credited 44.33 leaving 67.43. The rep told me the final bill would be this 67.43 PLUS the $60+ taxes and fees. I will definitely have to make sure I'm not on the hook for more than one month. Getting more money back would be great but if it's just the 67.43 I guess I'll take it.

For verizon folks, once paid off you can go into store and they should be able to get to a number +18888666924 was who called me, which can help escalate your unlock and also take care of waiving your activation fee, just tell them your service was no bueno and you need to change to a better provider.

Even after the 3 days they can waive it? Can I do this if I've already cancelled?

Got my device today, 6 days in. Paid it off and cancelled as per the wiki. The agent said Verizon actually owed me ~$55 so I'd get a refund, which sound wrong but I'll take it if true. Also put in a request to manually request an unlock since the device was paid off, without my asking. Let's see how this pans out. Worst case I'm paying about 350+taxes in all

Didn't make any calls while the line was active to verify activation , but did get texts. Should I expect to have any activation problems?

T-Mobile will definitely unlock it for you. I just have them unlocked my Walmart iPhone 14. You need to contact T-force via X, they'll either process the whitelist unlock instantly or wait until you have device usage for 40 days.
Thank you, appreciate the info

You should point them to ATT buyer remorse policy

"Service Cancellations within 14 Days. You may call us at 800-331-0500 to cancel wireless service. You are responsible for all applicable fees, prorated access charges, taxes, surcharges, or other charges through the termination date. AT&T will refund your activation fee, if any, if service is terminated within 3 days of activation. The charges for service used on the account before the service termination date may be applied against any down payment"

Which clearly states prorated charges of canceled within 14 days. https://www.att.com/wireless/return-policy/

If nothing works filing an FCC complaint make them do it quickly

For att users, is it easy to change plan from unlimited to original prepaid plan after activating the phone ? For some reason Verizon is denying me while making purchase.

Can anyone who paid it off with Verizon and disconnected line before they received it confirm if the device was activated and/or if the unlock timer was started?
You have to turn on the phone for device activation. The phone comes brand new in a sealed box. When I activated my phone, it took a few minutes for it to activate and connect to Verizon's network. That's not happening by itself in the sealed box.

I received my phone 4 days after it was shipped. On the 4th day, I turned on the device and paid off and cancelled. My final bill was $56 (that includes 1st month device payment + activation fee).
I contacted vzn via chat and they said because my line was cancelled they couldn't do anything and that I would need to go to their store. Then I asked if there was anything I can do without going to a store, then the rep asked his supervisor, and the supervisor fixed it for me, so the final bill ends up as $21. I think that still includes that $8 device payment even though I paid it off. But I will take it compared to $35.
So my total is $299 + $18 Walmart payment + $21 final bill = $340

Thank you for detailed steps, If possible, Can you please share link for AT&T unlock wiki ? How were you able to create an AT&T account before phone got delivered ? I took all screenshots along the way, but I do not see any account number or phone number while ordering. Thank You
When you're buying the phone you'll set up the account email and auth code / PIN and in the terms documents you will get the AT&T phone number they sent you. You also get an email link to confirm your email address that has the last 4 of your AT&T account # included too. At some point after you confirm that account number tied in to your phone and email is created and can be registered online. It takes some time and is apparently pending the phone's shipment.

I did this, the phone was never activated with Verizon. I did call Verizon customer service before trying another provider's SIM, they confirmed that the phone is not locked from their side as it is paid off. However the phone settings still show it as SIM locked. I gave T-mobile a try after they suggested and it is working.

I am actually wondering how many of you who first activated your phone with Tmobile have successfully unlocked it, other than the one who did it on X.

Just posting I got my final bill after receiving the phone and cancelling on the 4th day .. final bill $59.13. That seems high for just 1-2 days of service and activation fee. But did this with 2 phones and exact same final bill on each. So all in all $360 for each 14 256gb.

Actually now I wonder if that includes the tax on the $299 device as well so it makes sense.

Did you get a final bill yet ? Same boat chat rep said I have a credit of $60ish . I canceled within 3 days though.
