Sale Price does not include sale prices at Amazon unless a deal was posted by a community member.
Anyone want to post a walk through on how this works for a Pixel 8. All I get is $699 and having Best Buy assign an AT&T account to the phone. Where, when, does that price drop?

The price has gone up. But if it goes down to $399 again in new few weeks you can do the following.
1. On BB page select connect with a carrier and then go through the steps.
2. If you are with ATT/VZW then you can add a line to an existing account and cancel. If you are not with them then you either open a new line (for which you will have to go to BB in person) or port a number (you can get a Google voice number and unlock it for $3 and port it) to do the entire process online.
3. Once the phone ships (or pickup at store) you can cancel the account. Within 3 days activation fee will be waived and you end up paying 2-3 days of prorated bill.
More details are on the OnePlus Nord thread wiki I linked.
There is no carrier contract. The phone is unlocked and paid upfront. You get a line and then cancel it once the phone ships.
Moot point now, since the sale is done, so I'm not going to argue with you. They aren't going to give you a $100 discount for a promise you can back out of.
