Edit: So I couldn't resist, and ended up buying a Pixel 8 to try out. It turns out the Pixel 8 fingerprint reader is vastly improved from the horrid Pixel 7 fingerprint reader. It's amazing how much better it is, in just 1 generation. The Pixel 8 fingerprint reader has worked 100% for me, just as good as the Moto ThinkPhone fingerprint reader. Very impressive.
One odd thing - when I first set it up, the facial recognition was the only option, and the fingerprint reader setting was missing. After a restart, the fingerprint reader option became visible.

Google will kill the Moto with updates in years to come.

I don't disagree. My workaround is to register my thumb multiple times (3 in my case). Any little variances in the read will better match a larger pool of registered fingers. Not a perfect solution but it definitely helps.
That's the main reason I'm still using a Pixel, Google supports devices with security updates more timely and for longer than most other OEMS.

Yes, I'm sure those of us who care about updates already know this. Google and Apple lead then there's everyone else.

No Google and Samsung lead (both have seven years guaranteed support), with Apple a close follower, with no guarantee but usually 5 to 7 years depending on the device.
But you have to get a one year plan for an extra 180 making it 580 total. Still a good deal if you wanna use mint
I registered the same thumb all 4 times and it only helped a little and reliability in the dark is still 50/50 at best (I used Face Recognition to unlock when there is enough light). It is truly disappointing to have such an abysmal sensor. By contrast my cheap Pixel 5a capacitive sensor worked 100%.
I may get the pixel 9 when it comes down in price.
If you are a customer which is pretty easy without a year of service the phone is 399.00. There was a promo for a year's service but that's not what I'm referencing. I have mint and can purchase it without buying any additional plan.
How you liking the 9 on Mint?

I don't have one but really considering getting it at that price. I have a iPhone 13 and it's just getting a little boring so I wouldn't mind having a Pixel. I had the 7 but sold it due to some issues with the camera and fingerprint sensor.

So I'll probably use it til it is literally unusable, but $399 for a top(ish) end phone is pretty good.
