Looks expired on Amazon.
Newegg now has it for this deal price.

But in either case, there's quite a few reviews claiming premature failures. Probably a no-go for me.

Yep. Anecdotally, I'm in this thread because one of my 3 WD red just died (instead of graceful smart death, threw a bunch of bad sector errors and hung my nas). Need a replacement

My seagate exos pulls from external 14TB drives (3-years ago) are still going. So, I've had better luck with Seagates.

Won't open them until Black Friday

All drives are suspectable but I definitely hear it quite often when it comes to seagate drives.

Makes me wonder what the BF deals might be on reliable drives in these approximate size & price ranges

I read that externals are usually lower quality drives because consumer won't usually use them as often as internal drives. Any truth to that?

Perhaps, but even more telling is the warranty period those drives have compared to better internals.

according to reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsale...t/keyfg1q/

I shucked two of these from the Black Friday sale earlier this year. Drives are both labelled as Seagate Exos 2x14 Mach 2. Model# ST14000NM0121.

Only problem I've had so far with them is that I had to snip the 3.3V line on the PSU cable since these drives use the 3.3V for the "Power Disable" feature, and I have an older PSU that only came with 5-pin cables. (They won't spin up if they receive power on the 3.3V pin)

Not necessarily, the one I got last year was an Exos drive
