Spotted this while searching for hard drives. I've been looking at adding some extra storage for photo editing / astrophotography, and this was a decent price. I'll connect it to my Pi server for basic storage over the network, but I'm not trying to go deep into the NAS server. I bought an enclosure htinking I would buy a standalone drive, but at this price, I can't pass for now. I don't need the 24TB ones, so this was the best value for my current needs. I'm sure other Slickdealers can inform me on quality of the internals and if I should proceed with shucking.

Looks like its $179.99 with free shipping directly from Seagate:

I shucked these before and I got EXOS.

What are some examples of a better and better-priced HDD? Looking for one right now.

There's a deal on a 22TB for $240 on Seagate, plus reportedly an extra 10% off if you sign up for email (though I wasn't able to replicate it).

But there are reports the newer ones are Barracudas, not Exos, which makes me a sad panda.

Decided to put in NAS server with other drive. Same size.
Just for video back up and other files. Took out out the case.

I've been using this with my Mac Mini M4 and it constantly spins up and down even when idle. Super frustrating.

Did anyone here buy the 26TB $299 one at Best Buy from the other post? It expired but the deal price just came back. People were debating whether it would be EXOS.

I didn't see the pop up for the email list sign up. What page on the Seagate site do you go to to get it?

These drives were the ones that went down to $100 on clearance at Costco last year. Now Costco doesn't sell any external hard drives. At that time, they had exos Mach 2 dual actuator drives in them.

Seagate external drives only have a 1yr warranty. WD does 2 or 3 depending on whether it's an elements or my book. The Seagate specs don't say anything about power on hours or work load. So you could use it as heavily a you want in the enclosure and still claim the warranty if it fails in the first year

These are unlikely to be smr. There are no known drive managed smr drives over 8gb. Host managed smr would not work as an external drive. They're only sold to enterprise customers.
