Yep. Anecdotally, I'm in this thread because one of my 3 WD red just died (instead of graceful smart death, threw a bunch of bad sector errors and hung my nas). Need a replacement

My seagate exos pulls from external 14TB drives (3-years ago) are still going. So, I've had better luck with Seagates.

Won't open them until Black Friday

I'm also looking to buy a 14 to 20T external hard drive in the next two months. I was told that Western Digital is the go-to brand. Seagate is generally inferior. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!

Bought one of these in Feb for $150. Ran SeaTools sanitize on it which bricked it. Seagate honored the warranty but sucked that I had to pay to ship it back and now stuck with a refurb when I was thinking I'd be getting new. Honestly would avoid the 14TB and hold out for a deal on 18TB. The 14TB seem to have more issues than other Seagate drives.

For reference it had an IronWolf drive inside.

In future I'll always just buy drives in pairs and either return one if it doesn't work or setup automatic cloning.

is this fine for the casual user for mainly storing/watching movies and music? my 2x 4tb (WD's that i've had for ~10 years) are almost maxed, but would prob take 2-3 years to fill up 14tb - so just wondering if i can rely on seagate compared to my experience w WD. or is the seagate hate just biased and all externals can have the same unexpected failure rate?

Was hoping BestBuy would have the 18TB EasyStore for $199.99 like they did last year.
Missed out on last year because I went to HEB first to get two $100 BestBuy Giftcards for $80 each.
Only to get home and see the drive sold out.

If this is like the one i have every 10 minutes or so the drive spins and makes a loud noise it's extremely irritating. Also, it's very very slow, so if you are doing lots of copies i wouldn't bother. This is good for like an overnight backup save system

I'm hesitant to put all my valuable pron on a 14TB drive. I'd rather have two 5's and a 4 so I risk only losing 1/3 of my life's work. 😂

I shucked two of these from the Black Friday sale earlier this year. Drives are both labelled as Seagate Exos 2x14 Mach 2. Model# ST14000NM0121.

Only problem I've had so far with them is that I had to snip the 3.3V line on the PSU cable since these drives use the 3.3V for the "Power Disable" feature, and I have an older PSU that only came with 5-pin cables. (They won't spin up if they receive power on the 3.3V pin)
Just to add to this, the 3.3v issue isn't limited to just shucked Seagate, it's the same with shucked Western Digital.

Clipping the 3.3v wire is the best way to do it, I was too much of a wuss and just used kapton tape over that pin.

I had 2 of them in my Costco cart and for some reason I put them back.....mistakes were made that day.
