The SSD in this is also faster than the M2. Might not notice it in day to day tasks, but still. For $100 more than the earlier M2 deal, I think the upgrades here and an extra year of software support is worth it (definitely more so than paying $200 for an extra 256gb of onboard storage).

For anyone that bought this at Bestbuy recently at the $899 price point, I just did a quick chat and got $50 back with their price match guarantee.
will they still do it now even though they are in price match exclusion period? I bought mine on November 11

Not anymore, reps are unlikely to give it starting today. I lucked out because I got them to approve my price match last night.

Nice that Best Buy price matched. I wonder if getting a $50 price adjustment through them will impact my 5% PayPal cash back.

Definitely not worth upgrading to M2 and M3 is debatable. But if you have fear of missing out on a good sale, definitely get the M3.

BB currently offers $350 if you trade in your M1.

Thank you for the reply. That link doesn't work for me. But I tried the BB website and it was offering $200 for the trade. Not sure if I am missing something.

I wasn't sure what color you have, silver has a $350 trade in value. Space gray has $200 trade in value, a shame that they are giving the other color almost double.

I have a M1 8/256 which I purchased in late 2021. It is in very good condition, great battery life and still seems very fast and smooth. I see them selling used for more than $400.

I am debating upgrading. My questions are

1) Is it worth upgrading at all?
2) If so, M2 in this configuration for $749 or M3 for $100 more?

Just wondering if the M1/8 to M2/16 is enough of an upgrade (assuming I can sell mine for $400+) or if the $100 extra for the M3/16 is a better choice coming from the M1/8.

Thank you in advance!
Definitely gonna depend on your use case. M1 to M2 is like a 15% difference ,M1 to M3 is like a 33% difference in performance if you go by benchmarks. In day to day usage you're not going to notice a thing most likely. The biggest upgrade in either case is the 16GB RAM, but that assumes you're stressing your system there as well. You'll want to look at Activity monitor and keep your eyes on memory pressure -- far as I know macs don't do RAM like PCs do, so it's not the amt of memory used that you want to look at but the memory pressure. If you can slightly change what you're doing like rebooting occasionally, closing more of your tabs, etc -- it's still more than enough for light usage.

Me personally, I got a 8/256 M1 as well. I might have to think a bit more if the M3 drops to $800 or the M2 to $700, but at the current price I don't think I'm gaining a whole ton. M1 is still more than relevant, A18s are finally caught up with M1 in terms of performance after 3 years. Considering that a large swath of ipads are still at 8GB as a starting point I don't see memory being a huge issue for the next 2-4yrs if you're ok with some app management.

Just bought this a little over a week ago on Amazon for $899. Tried contacting customer service for a price adjustment and they refused. Literally told them I was going to return it and order it again, making them not only ship me another one but also process my return and their response was "that is your right". New one for $849 will be here Saturday, dropped the current one off at the return center on my lunch.

Is yours 8-core GPU or 10-core GPU? It seems like the description is misleading. It says 10-core GPU under the description and 8-core GPU under the product information.
it came as a 8-core GPU, not 10

Got M2 from Costco ($749) last week but will return it. Got this one ($849). Was able to use 30% off ($30 max) when paying with Discover rewards. I used only $10 from rewards, rest paid with Discover to get 5% cash back. Meaning got 70 (30 rewards + 40 cashbacks) off. Lost one year of extra warranty from Costco though, but got newer model for $30 more.

Same here , debated sending back with additional $50 off apple care for total of $100 savings but I've already set this damn thing up. I'll be buying from Best Buy and such from now on and get price matches in future on big ticket electronics.
