Once the phone is delivered you need to activate the device , at which point the number port in process will begin . By default the auto refill is disabled in account , but it won't hurt to check and confirm . Once 30 days service is completed , total wireless will remind you to refill to continue your service , which you can ignore . The device will be unlocked once 60 days is over

I got the phone in the mail today. I ported over a Google Voice number when I bought it, and just activated the phone successfully. Just in case anyone needs some information, here's what I filled out when they asked about the existing carrier I'm using. I don't have the screen up anymore, so I don't remember the exact labels:

Select "Other" for the carrier. I didn't see anything for Google.
The account number is your 10-digit Google Voice number.
For the address, use Google's address:

1600 Amphitheatre Pkwy.
Mountain View, CA 94043

For the pin, you need to have a voicemail pin. If you don't have one:

Go to https://voice.google.com. You might have to be on a computer or access the desktop version of the site.
Go to Settings -> Voicemail -> Call to listen

If this is unchecked, check it and it'll ask you to put in a pin.
If this is already checked, you should see a button to reset the pin if you forgot it.

A couple other notes I wanted to put out there:

There isn't any sort of branding when booting up the phone. I noticed that the A15 from the Straight Talk deal had a splash screen for the carrier when booting.
There wasn't anything branding related until I was going through the setup process. There was a setting for TracFone Wireless Device Pulse terms and conditions. I'm wondering if this screen still shows up once unlocked and is factory reset. Does anyone happen to know?

Overall, it was a pretty smooth process for me. Not bad for a $65 phone.

You dont have to maintain the service beyond the one month which you pay for during the order. Device will be unlocked within 60days of activation, so technically you are paying for the device in the form of Plan payment for a month and then some tax.

I ordered another phone from Total and I would unlock the phone number when you received the phone.
Thanks for the input. The city where I live is very hard to get a Google voice number and if I unlock the number early someone else might take it.

same OLED/AMOLED screen quality.
What I meant was A54 uses Gorilla Glass 5, but A35 uses Gorilla Glass Victus+, which is newer and has better scratch resistance/drop protection.

Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is stronger than Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and has better scratch and drop performance.

I just placed an order successfully. I used a Google Voice number, which I just created minutes ago, and did the verification without issues. I'm not sure what happens after all this. I forgot to unlock the Google Voice number, so did that after placing the order. Not exactly sure when that all should have been done, since I've never moved to another carrier.

To unlock the Google Voice number for porting, it's $3. I couldn't find it on my phone at a glance, but you can also do it here, which is what I did: http://www.google.com/voice/unlock

If you're not seeing the phone for free, it might be because you didn't pick the right plan. It has to be the Total 5G+ Unlimited plan for $65, and not the $55 one. I tried the $55 plan at first too because it said it was eligible for the phone discount, but in the end, the phone wasn't free. So I switched to the $65 one, like the post originally said, and it was all good after that.

Total after taxes and fees was just about $85. The Chase offer will get me $15 back, and a CB site is currently 14% back, although I only got back $8.31. But in the end, it's about $62.
Ditto this, with the cashback and Chase deals, I'm at $68 with higher taxes/fees in my area. Quite happy Smilie

Not that it's a huge add-on value but the plan also has Disney+ with no ads.

With the glass back on the A35 you definitely want a case. There is a decent deal on an Otterbox case for this phone.

Agreed and may be it's just my use case but I tend to sell my phones after a year of use to get the best value out of it and also with rapid hardware changes, nowadays, the decline in value is exponential.

Alternatively I also explore the option to unlock the bootloader and root devices for extended custom rom support (but that's not true for all devices. Having said that. Motorola is far better than Samsung on ease of bootloader unlocking and releasing the same hardware across the globe meaning better open source developer support.)

But that's just me, you may disagree and I respect that.
What happens to all the content on the fone? Do you lose everything and start over?

Do you lose all your text message history?

Setting up a phone all over again every year doesn't sound fun.

True, it's not for everyone. But I do it anyway. For me, being on the latest device trips the effort to setup. Besides, 9 to 12 months of use still gives me a good return value on marketplaces while selling. But that's just me.

SMS Backup and Restore App transfers all your text message history exactly like it was. It works only with android though. When you do backup and transfer, everything is transferred exactly as is. I have a Pixel, Motorola and Samsung so if I do get another phone, it really is easy to get the phone set up.

The problem I have with constantly upgrading phones yearly is that it is really unnecessary. It is more reasonable to do it every 2-3 years. If one can do 4 or more years, you can really feel and see the upgrade difference. Just because there are good deals, it doesn't mean to buy it. People may be really happy with their current daily driver phone but they will still buy another phone just because. With these mvno deals, they are solid but I don't want to go to the well too often and then possibly get my ID get blacklisted.

IMO the BF phone deals were much better in previous years. Last year, I got an iphone SE3 with plan for $85 total.

I also got the same walmart straight talk deal but lets be real and say the iphone SE really stinks with its tiny 4.7" lcd and terrible battery life. Those are just 2 of its huge cons. I regret that purchase even at $85. A 4.7" display is pretty unusable to me. I tried. Tiny keyboard, pinch and zoom, etc. Not enjoyable. I would happily trade my iphone se 2022 for the Motorola Edge, Samsung Galaxy A35 or Motorola G Stylus 2024 deals. I also paid $49 for my Samsung Galaxy A54 and that is far better more enjoyable phone than my iphone SE 2022. Not necessarily processor but overall more enjoyable.

If one wants to "disconnect" from apps and try to stay off the phone, the iphone se 2022 is a good idea.

I'm hoping someone can help me out with phone activation.
So i bought the phone and used my Google Voice number on the website when it asked me what phone number i'd like to port in.
When I try to activate the phone on TotalVerizon.com it says i need to put in my existing carrier, but google voice is not listed. I can select Other, but then it asks for an account number. Anyone run into this issue and know what to do?
Edit: Is this the $3 "unlock" feature in Google Voice?

Well, the iphone SE is year a older now and things look different compared to what's available now. What I'm saying is phone deals in general were way better values during previous Black Friday sales.Slick Deals threads for some phone deals were hundred of pages long with thousands of posts. Not this year. The Walmart flyer used to be loaded with great deals on everything, TV's etc. I think this points to serious economic troubles coming in retail.

Which phones specifically were better?
