Besides, the display on this is really, really good for IPS. A pleasure to look at. I don't think you'll find a better jack-of-all-trades monitor than this, especially for the price. Everything looks sharp with accurate colors and more brightness than most will ever need. I have it connected using DP and it does 144hz 10-bit for smooth gaming and movie-watching without blurring. Great decision to go with this over the Alienware for my needs and at half the price too.
If you're a gamer, IPS has a slight edge in motion blur/less ghosting.
If you're into watching media content like movies the VA panel will be vastly superior due to its much better contrast ratio. Blacks look washed out on IPS. If you've ever used your monitor at night in a pitch black room you will really notice the greyness of an ips panel's black level.
If all you are using this monitor for is for computer work in Microsoft Excel/word/ etc either panel will work just fine.

I can really only tell displays apart if they're side by side so I'm unsure if this is a worthy upgrade considering they're both IPS.
If you're a gamer, IPS has a slight edge in motion blur/less ghosting.
If you're into watching media content like movies the VA panel will be vastly superior due to its much better contrast ratio. Blacks look washed out on IPS. If you've ever used your monitor at night in a pitch black room you will really notice the greyness of an ips panel's black level.

Lg: IPS panel, better brand name (hence more reliable?) , other specs similar to asrock. From reviews this one can get 160hz if use display port, which we don't have. With all cash back this comes down to $300. bit stretching with my budget though.
Asrock: va panel, seems to have solid reviews. Also better refresh rate (165hz) with hdmi. I purchased both gifts cards + cash back so total can come down to ~$150. pretty good deal.
So given usage , does this LG worth extra $150?
If the LG is more color accurate then it would definitely be worth getting for me. But I don't even know what accuracy is, for all I know it could be that the MSI I have is more accurate than my TV
OLED is best of both worlds, best blacks and high refresh rates. But expensiveeee

VA panels don't have as wide of a viewing angle as IPS panels. So looking at the monitor at off angles would cause some of the screen to look washed out. But that's what the curvature of these newer VA panels are supposed to solve. I'm currently looking to replace my old IPS monitor for a newer model. Price is a big factor to me and in my situation I mostly just need a monitor that does anything well other than gaming (since I'll do the gaming on the QD-OLED screen). So either VA or IPS works for me.
Now, if you're ever going to be standing behind your partner to view a game together, a movie, etc. Forget about VA. Get the IPS. Everyone will be able to view the screen without it looking washed out. If the only person that will ever look at the screen is the primary user, the curved VA will be fine for them.

If you're only going to use 1 screen to do everything, IPS is a good choice (gaming/productivity/entertainment). In my case a two monitor setup makes me more productive and I can split the use case of the monitors in half (one monitor is for gaming/movie watching the other is for productivity). But both can be used for productivity if I need it (doing photo editing work on the QD-OLED while having slickdeal's page open on the other monitor

General computer use, I like it just fine. It's the gaming aspect where I wish could look center and have a wider view.
