I have a Pixel 6 to trade in that I bought from T-Mobile 3 years ago, so the website already has the IMEI. I went all the way through the checkout process, everything looked good. But then I carefully read the Trade In Terms document. It said the Trade In expires on 11/23/2024 (tomorrow). If you then click on the link in that document that takes you to https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce...d-t-c.html , it says "If you fail to return your Device by the trade-in expiration date, you may be required to pay back any value or credit advanced to you." It also says "...if you sell your Device online or over the phone, we will honor the Offer Price if: (1) your Device is received by us by the Offer Price trade-in expiration date."
That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.
This deal worked on my Simple Choice plan -- via T-App, traded in S21FE, total was the $35 DCC + state tax.
You'll actually be fine with the trade in. Just placed my order and this is verbatim from my confirmation email from T-Mobile:

What's next?
Once that cool new device is in your hands, get started on these important next steps.
Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 Pro ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Google GVU6C Pixel 7 5G 128GB White - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $800.00.

Just got my XL last night. OEM locked from the start. Enabled developer options before connecting to any network. OEM unlocking grayed out and says " Unavailable on carrier-locked devices." I've read AT&T versions may be able to be OEM unlocked before setting up.
Just got mine and its the same way. This is unfortunate. I wonder if doing a temporary travel unlock would allow the bootloader to be unlocked?

Here is what worked for me, thanks for the various comments found on Slickdeals.
  1. Call Costco T-Mobile 833-428-1765
  2. Mention Deal ID P943
  3. Mention Smartphone Trade ID240577
  4. Mention having issues doing it online and was trying to see if I can do it over the phone
  5. Had to go through a few reps. Got declined saying it is online only until a rep was able to do it.
  6. Declined all insurance/product offerings.
  7. Confirmed $800 off (ONE plan, S20 FE)
  8. Confirmed $35 activation fee waived
  9. Confirmed $100 Costco Shop card instructions
  10. Paid Sales Tax based on full price $999.99
GL!
This worked for me. A guy that tried to sell me absolutely everything in the world, idk how they found this guy.

How did that work? Can you share now that they have got rid of it ?
Certain credit cards have temporary or rotating categories for 5% cash back. I think this is what he was trying to get.

Would eBay seller provide the IMEI number after the order is placed in order to use?
Yes! The seller messaged me the IMEI of the phone they were shipping to me a few hours after I placed my order after I kindly messaged them for the IMEI.

Two years. At that point the phone will be paid off and you can request it to get unlocked. Even if your net monthly payment on the phone is $0, there is a monthly phone cost that's being offset by the $800 promotion. And T-Mobile will not unlock the phone until it is completely paid off. You could pay the phone off early to get it unlocked early but then you'd lose the remaining prorated credit on the $800. This deal isn't suited for what you want to do with the phone. My guess is 'definitely'.
I thought there is option to temporarily unlock your phone for international travel. You might even be able to do it manually yourself from phone setting. There is a limit of course, so it won't be permanent. I got this from tmobile web Q&A website.

Is this promo still alive as of today?
The eBay seller I bought my trade-in Samsung S21 phone from claims the promo ends on Dec 2 so you'd need to get an IMEI for trade-in by then.

Yes, definitely true. But that's different from the other poster wanting to give the phone to someone to permanently abroad.

Since this one is essentially free after trade in, can I trade/sell it without repercussions before 2 years? Im still planning to keep tmobile for a long time, just not the phone.
Nope, it's a bill credit for 2 years even though it comes out to nothing for each month bill. The bill credit stops if you somehow want to buy out the term and need to pay the rest of the outstanding EIP balance.

Nothing stopping you from doing so. No repercussions for you but there are risks for the buyer. For example, if you somehow close your T-Mobile account before the phone is paid off in the 2 years (yes there's a monthly cost for the phone, offset by the monthly promotional credit) and you skip out on paying off balance due, I believe the phone gets blacklisted.

Oh geeze, I saw original question, but the answers evolve to you can never unlock the phone. I just want to clarify that. No need to be upset about it.

Does anyone have the promocode for the $100 costco card to submit at Costco promo submission [t-mobile.com] ?

The 240150 promo code listed on the page seems to be only for the Go5G Plus or Go5G Next plans and not Simple Choice unless I am mistaken.
did you figure this out?

Almost certain I tried that before, and it would not allow OEM unlock with temporary sim unlock.
Edit: Just tried it with the T-Mobile unlock app. Got a 30 day Temporary unlock, OEM unlock still grayed out.

can I get this deal as an 'upgrade' again on more than one of my lines (ONE Plan)? I already did it for one line, and am considering doing it on another line too?

Is that allowed?
Have people done that?

Does " Max 4 discounted devices/account. " mean I can do it on four separate lines?

I am reading the terms again, and it seems like it requires the go5g plan for the $150 rebate . but for the $100, it doesnt state it requires the go5g plan.

weird that they at no point as for my costco member id number. not over the phone and not on the rebate form.

I did it for my 4 lines. Now just have to send phones in as soon as I get them
