I have a Pixel 6 to trade in that I bought from T-Mobile 3 years ago, so the website already has the IMEI. I went all the way through the checkout process, everything looked good. But then I carefully read the Trade In Terms document. It said the Trade In expires on 11/23/2024 (tomorrow). If you then click on the link in that document that takes you to https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce...d-t-c.html , it says "If you fail to return your Device by the trade-in expiration date, you may be required to pay back any value or credit advanced to you." It also says "...if you sell your Device online or over the phone, we will honor the Offer Price if: (1) your Device is received by us by the Offer Price trade-in expiration date."
That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.
This deal worked on my Simple Choice plan -- via T-App, traded in S21FE, total was the $35 DCC + state tax.
You'll actually be fine with the trade in. Just placed my order and this is verbatim from my confirmation email from T-Mobile:

What's next?
Once that cool new device is in your hands, get started on these important next steps.
Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 Pro ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Google GVU6C Pixel 7 5G 128GB White - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $800.00.

I am reading the terms again, and it seems like it requires the go5g plan for the $150 rebate . but for the $100, it doesnt state it requires the go5g plan.

weird that they at no point as for my costco member id number. not over the phone and not on the rebate form.

right, that's my understanding as well. thanks. A lot of us have simple choice plan. and we are afraid of losing this plan when we see mention of "Go5G Plus or Go5G"

I dropped off the trade-in to a T-mobile store early this morning. The lady initially told me to drop off the phone to the UPS store next door, but changed her mind and processed the trade-in. It took about 5 minutes, and I got a receipt, which is also available in my T-mobile account. BTW, she just turned on the phone to make sure it is factory reset, but didn't check water damage. I think once the phone arrives at the warehouse, it will be checked thoroughly.

Is it worth the hassle to attempts this? I have T-Mobile and an extra Pixel 7. Can I trade in to Pixel 9 then trade in this Pixel 9 in the future for next year phone (Pixel 10)? Maybe not worth the hassle then to just sell my Pixel 7 for $150-200.

Almost certain I tried that before, and it would not allow OEM unlock with temporary sim unlock. Edit: Just tried it with the T-Mobile unlock app. Got a 30 day Temporary unlock, OEM unlock still grayed out.
thanks for trying!

You won't be able to trade the Pixel 9 in to T-Mobile unless you pay it off. If you do that next year, you'll lose the rest of the 24 month bill credits.

Dang. I guess it will be better to just sell my Pixel 7 for 150-200. Thanks for the info

Apparently you can trade in a carrier financed device to Google.

It's a hassle if you want a new one in less than 2 years because technically it's still being paid for. But after 2 years it's pretty much yours.

So it all depend when you want to get a newer one. Nowadays phones don't improve much year to year. I mean on paper the tech is better but that's it.

What do you mean it will be checked thoroughly at warehouse? So after this step it's possible your trade in will be declined?

Not if the store does the trade in properly.

Did you have to wait for your new phone to arrive before going to do the trade in? I can't find any trade in info like where to send it. I live close to an TMO Corp office so I thought this might be easier. Did you have to bring anything with you or just the phone?

So is trade in condition finalized at store and credited to your account. Because based on the prior post she didn't check for water damage. Does that mean that store didn't do the trade in properly? Id rather not leave it to the store employee to package my trade in and mail it in if the case is that the trade in can still be rejected. Id rather do it myself if that's the case.

Yes. The last trade in I did at the store they checked the phone, briefly, marked it as accepted, the instant credit went on my account, and I got a receipt that the trade in was completed.
I haven't taken my 6 Pro in yet, probably tomorrow, but under no circumstance will I leave without those things. Definitely won't leave it there if they tell me they are going to print a label and ship it.
