About this Item:
- 4-Stage filtration system (Pre-filter, deodorization filter, true HEPA filter, vital ion) captures and reduces up to 99.97% of 0.3-micron particles in the air, including pollen, pollutants, and other allergens. It also reduces volatile organic compounds and reduces odor.
- Coway airmega's real-time air quality monitor keeps you informed of the quality of your air. In auto Mode, the fan and purification levels adjust to the space as needed.
- Fan speeds are available in 1, 2, and 3 stages by manually setting up. While auto mode automatically optimizes the speed setting 1 through 3 based on the level of indoor air quality.
- Filter replacement indicator checks both pre-filter and HEPA filters respectively to let users be aware of when to wash or replace the filter.
- Limited 3-year manufacturer's warranty

There are tons of generic filters on Amazon. The one I like to buy is by VEVA:

If you can afford the genuine filters, the original HEPA filter is definitely superior.
IMO for the carbon pre-filters, you can buy the generic ones from Amazon and just replace them more frequently. (You kind of need to because Coway bundles 2 carbon filters with 1 HEPA filter. Normally the ratio is 4 to 1.)

Looks like Amazon has matched the price but they won't ship for a couple of weeks.

I think my house has a pretty good filtering system. How do I know if I need this?

fyi...i like this one because you can place it flush against the wall since the air comes in the sides and out the top. winix says you need about 10 inches from the wall on the 5500
I just can't think of how I will literally notice the difference. Please help me understand.

Also, if you have a standard HVAC system, hopefully you're not running HEPA filters in it. Because it creates strain on the fan motor.

if you and no one in your house is effected by allergies and you feel your indoor air quality is good, then you don't need one. I'd recommend one for anyone in my situation though, and any pellet stove and wood stove users.
