My home gym is nearly 100% balance from brand plates and dumbbells. They do smell and may have an oil or damp residue from the factory. Wipe them down let them sit in open air preferably in the sun for a day or two and zero problems.
I have been working out with these dumbbells 5-50lbs though. BF plates and the balance from power rack and lat pull down for over a year. It's helped me get stronger and loose about 50 lbs of course coupled with diet and cardio as well.
I picked up all the equipment via SD deals and could not be happier.
Understand that it is lower end equipment but you're getting a smoking deal tbh.
Don't Abuse them and they should last a life time.
