Yes, you need to sign up for a plan
It can be activated only as needed, you don't need to pay the plan price month after month continuously.

As per google.

Seems kinda high to me but maybe it'll come down ……

Key points about Starlink pricing:
Standard plan: $120/month
Roam plan (with limited data): $50/month
Roam plan (unlimited data): $165/month
Mobile Priority plan (with higher priority): Varies depending on data allowance, can be significantly more expensive

This is an excellent find, I fully expect this to be FP very quickly.
The STARLINK MINI never goes on sale (this is not the starlink standard which has gone on sale for $299 before, this is the MINI version). I have never ever seen the MINI on sale.

Combine with Amex deal, making it $425. Or you can combine with the Chase Paypal 5% quarterly thing as well.

Thanks OP!

Side Note: You can very easily make a rugged and portable starlink mini kit with a power bank, and it will all fit inside of an Apache 3800 from Harbor Freight (a little tight), or you can get the Apache 4800 and it will have plenty of room for the foam padding.
Also, due to the lower price from the sale, the Best Buy Product Replacement Plan is $69.99 instead of the higher price. Normally I'm not a fan of these types of things, but for this I highly recommend getting it. Use Amex, which adds 1 yr on top of that, so then you have 5 yrs of coverage even for cables and accessories which come with it. Starlink itself doesn't even offer a comparable plan at any price.

What happens if you go over your data usage? It just cuts you off?

No problem at all. Just wait till mid flight when everyone is comfortable in their chairs and set this up. Good to go.

My understanding is that regular Roam plan has a traveling speed limit (I think 100mph?). There may be more expensive plans to go faster (airplane?), but I didn't get that far into the issue.

You can choose to allow service to be cutoff until the next billing cycle or have it continue @ $1/gigabyte

Is the Standard plan: $120/month comes with unlimited data?

Yes, that's the standard plan that this device cannot use. I think we have to pick the $165 Roam Unlimited

Standard plan isn't available for the mini, it only works on the "roam" plan for now, and it's like $50 for 50gb or $165 for a month of unlimited, depending on your area it could be more or less, since starlink has a habit of changing the price due to more users in any given area.

Actually it is a good deal for the Starlink Mini. You pointing to Home Depot's same $450 price doesn't change that.

Wrong. Standard - yes, Mini - No
This is the first time the Mini has gone on sale since its debut.

Why is the Walmart one posted ~$350 VS ~450+ ? Why are people not more interested in that?

Is there a difference in functionality to understand and consider?

Anyone able to give guidance on application?
What is the "right device and plan" for casual access for ~week long use, multiple times a year?
Usually do spring trips, summer trips and late fall off grid out in the woods, and casually multi day trips sporadically on weekends.

What to select to optimize that type of usage, don't think we we exceed 50gb, just casual browsing and mostly reading, not much multimedia use beyond incidental.
