Anyone wanting to "JAILBREAK" this don't spend all your time trying to input ADB code, you can if that's your thing but I would rather get to using this right away, download POJECTIVY LAUNCHER (https://play.google.com/store/app...n_US&pli=1). It does all the programming in the background so you don't have to. It's FREEMIUM Launcher available directly from the play store but well worth the $7-8 bucks to change wallpaper and extra features. It already makes the launcher the default screen when hitting the home button for free using accessibility permissions. If you want to take it to another level also get Button Mapper and change the buttons on the remote to open something else. Don't forget to click BUILD VERSION 5 times... Located in system > about to activate developer settings. Notable addons and mentions are obviously DOWNLOADER, MOONLIGHT REMOTE GAME STREAMING from PC, CX EXPLORER to sideload APKS via network, SMARtTUBE - zero add youtube app (28544 downloader code), STREMIO (with Premiumize. STAY AWAY from Real-debrid, they turned on their clients), Fosmon Mini Bluetooth Keyboard, & the TRENDnet 2.5G USB-C to RJ-45 Ethernet Adapter (Built in ethernet only does 100mb/s.) I have EVERY STREAMER from apple tv to nvidia shield (TUBE & PRO), roku, firesticks, and chromecasts.. This IS the best bang for buck android tv at this price as of 12/2024. New On version pending in 2025 to replace Google TV 4K Streaming Box - ONN 4k pro plus (- this version only has 2gb so still not an alternative for this): https://www.androidtv-guide.com/s...google-tv/
I bought this yesterday. I highly recommend the Launcher "Projectivy Launcher" to replace the default launcher. Removes all the ads and let's you customize your screen as much or as little as you want. Removes all the bloat from Google TV. You can download it from the app store.
10/100 is a reasonable cost-saving measure for a streaming device. 4K streaming only requires about 15-20 Mbps. 100 Mbps is plenty for streaming media over the internet or even over a LAN. The only time you'd get the benefits of gigabit is if you're downloading/transferring large files, which device isn't really designed to do and most people don't do often on their streaming devices.

does this one do AV1 codec, and YouTube with HDR? Shield does not. I will try it if it can.

To me, jailbreaking means I could run lineage, without having to run a google bloated/spywared OS. It isn't just about adding more apps.

The original 2021 ONN box that can't be found anywhere anymore could run lineage, but to my knowledge none of the models since.
That's not jailbreaking. That's installing a custom OS. Big difference.

Not sure if posted higher up, but this will do Doby Atmos MAT but not Dolby Atmos over TrueHD. Even with pass-through set, it won't send the signal to the AVR or soundbar
Wait what? So if I want to play a USB video file with TrueHD audio it won't pass-through the signal to my AVR and I won't have any sound?

Thanks OP! Had this sitting in my cart. Have the Roku Ultra LT from the 2022 black friday sale that has served me well but will be moving it now to the bedroom TV.

Can this stream local video files from a NAS or PC without needing to run a media server such as Plex?
You can add nfs, smb or run a dlna media server then add it to Kodi. I think that's your simplest solution.

In for one, getting real tired of my Fire sticks running out of storage. 10/100 ethernet is a puzzling choice though since gigabit's been the norm for many years, I imagine 100mbps will barely be adequate for 4K streaming.
4K Netflix streaming? Perfectly fine. On the other hand, if you are planning to watch a lot of ripped 4K content, get Nvidia Shield or similar with 1Gig ethernet. Ripped Oppenheimer 4K for example has a bitrate of 66 Mbps, so it will quickly saturate your network.

Well seeing nvidia has finally abandoned the shield after about 8 years of updates, if I was needing another TV streamer I would get this one. Pretty weird that walmart of all people make the best streamer for the best price but whatevers

The built-in wi-fi 6 should have 1000Mb speed capacity.... nowadays wi-fi connection is cheaper deployment than wired connections

Or just add a USB gigabit ethernet adapter for $10 and save yourself $150. If you still need to use your USB port for other devices or storage, add a cheap USB 3.0 hub to get more ports. Or you could just use the built-in wifi as someone else suggested.

I'm not entirely sure what USB adapter chipsets are supported (or if it even matters) but I plugged in a random no-name WEme branded gigabit adapter I bought for $8 in 2017 and it worked immediately. Looking back at my purchase history, it looks like that same device [amazon.com] is now $12 but includes a built-in USB 3.0 hub, so it'd basically kill two birds with one stone.

There is no such thing as jailbreaking a stock Android or Android TV setup. This is an Apple mentality where you can't do what you want with your own device. You can sideload on any Android system without hoops or hacking.
Correct ^

Any reason to upgrade to this over the standard Onn 4k?
I've used both Onn 4k devices, and they both stream equally well in my experience. The big difference to me is that menu navigation on this model is much smoother. When I navigate TV listings on DirecTV Stream with the lower model it takes a second to load each channels graphic. That doesn't happen with this version.

Yes, this why I have KODI installed. I have library of my own BLU Ray/DVD rips and home videos that I can stream local content. Setup SMB connection in KODI, have SMB to my Nvidia Shield which has Hard Drive connected and shared out and also Windows 11 that also has USB external hard drive shared out.
Can you teach me how to run PC files to this ??
Obviously the PC would need to stay on at all times?
