I finally got the 3.4 set up. For context I'm coming from an Onkyo TR-NX 818. It had 130 watts per channel vs this at 100. My first day setting it up and playing around with it I was underwhelmed. I purchased the Klipsch RP 1200SW at the same time to pair with my KSW 15. I've had my KSW 15 for over 24 years and it has served me very well. Switching to a two subwoofer system has been amazing. At first that was the only thing that had impressed me. I was really second guessing the purchase of the Integra.
This morning I got up early, moved some furniture around, and played with the sub woofer placement. Then I ran Dirac for the first time. I did the full placement testing with the supplied mic. WOW … everything came alive. I can't wait to try Dirac with my laptop, then I'm going to buy the minidsp UMIK-1 mic.
I wasn't expecting to be wowed this much, especially coming from an Audyssey XT32 set up on my old TX-NR 818. I know it will progressively get better redoing it with the laptop, than the new minidsp mic. The bass has really tightened up. Original I didn't have both subs parallel from each other, so that helped also, at least with some standing waves. I don't feel the need to invest in an Emotiva Basx A3, or an Outlaw amp anymore. I probably will once I upgrade to 5.2.4, but for now I'm set and satisfied.
There is no reciever at this price with 9 channels, pre outs, HDMI 2.1 on all ports, and Dirac built in. Also higher grade components compared to similar Onkyo and Pioneer models.

In an A/B amp design..A very good indicator of a better amp/power supply is the higher weight of the unit
My Mcintosh amp is 115 lbs on a good day. It's actually the input/output transformers and heat sinks that take up most weight.
Incidentally, how fast is the Adorama shipping?

Glad I have only had to do it once
As for Adorama current shipping time..I really dont know
I dont think I have ordered from them in the last few years
What I do get is constant problems with ARC. I've upgraded the firmware repeatedly until it was on the latest version, and my unit was manufactured this year. Took like 3 updates to get current. I factory reset it every day to get ARC working again. Swapped cables. You name it.
I used to use a cheap EARC converter and a 20 year old Onkyo receiver. Worked flawlessly. This Integra receiver is beyond frustrating. Doesn't sound better than my old receiver either.
I have a cheap Denon 2 channel on another TV and it's rock solid. I want to chuck this Integra unit out a window. I went past the return period trying to get it working right. Ugh.
I've put together a budget-friendly home theater using a Jamo S809 tower, an S89 center, a Dayton bookshelf for the front height, and Dayton Audio satellite. There are two subs - one Dayton Audio 10" and one Monoprice 10". Not the typical audiophile's setup

Room environment does also but few people want to deal with that.
Unless you're willing to follow this layout, 80% will be hard to surpass especially for the cost to do it imo.

- Turn CEC/ARC off so there's just one way communication - if it fixes the issue then try new 48 Gbps certified HDMI cables.
- Set HDMI 4K/8K Signal Format to 4K standard - if it fixes the issue then try new 48 Gbps certified HDMI cables.
- Disconnect HDMI & unplug TV/AVR. Reconnect HDMI then plug TV/AVR to power source.
- If you use a streaming device (ex: FireTV) connect it to input 3, not input 4.
- If using long HDMI cables switch to optical HDMI cables or try a USB 5V to HDMI injector.
- If using older HDMI cables then try using 48 Gbps certified HDMI cables.
If all else fails then contact Integra for help or possible replacement. If that doesn't fix the issue then request a refund. I'm curious, what was the model of the 20 year Onkyo? Also, did you setup Dirac? If room correction is important, the one that comes w/the JBLs is trash so you'll have to pay for Dirac!

So no need for me to upgrade yet since I'm very content with my AV experience.

The quality of the speakers are the most critical for best sound quality.
I would suggest concentrating on building a 5.1 1st.
I understand "Atmos/X" is the rage but it's only as good as your core/base layer(5.1) setup imo.
Good luck.

Also, did you setup Dirac?I did some digging on AVS forum and other people have the same issue. Something is up with the way this receiver handshakes. I even got the AMP Speakers message another owner got after a firmware update.
If I connect the receiver via that cheap HDMI arc adapter I have it works fine. The problem is very specifically ARC related. It will even show the volume changing, CEC is working.
Given that I had handshake issues with the RZ-50 Onkyo has a problem. My $20 ARC adapter from Amazon doesn't do this, nor does my budget Denon receiver.
Also doesn't do this when used outside of ARC/EARC.

Imo every speaker matters for optimal sound quality.
As far as the $50 receiver, you can get legacy ones for close to that that will drive $3000 speakers very well.
Especially for a 5.1 setup imo. 😜
