1) the device is preloaded with this plan and it can not be transferred (unless you do those future steps
2) even though the device is preloaded it is not activated, you have to activate it via the red card and calling a number or doing the online chat
3) during the activation if you are already a tracphone customer you can stack it with existing tracfone service
3b) or get a new phone number
3c) or transfer your existing phone number via a competitor like mint mobile, the big three (at&t, verizon, t-mobile), or another MVNO
4) once the device is activated your 1 year is counting down (or more than one year if you are a rollover customer with existing tracfone service like previous deals. For example my tracfone services goes until feb 2027 for I have bought previous deals, each new phone had 1 year of service plus data so somehow I got from 2025 to 2026 to 2027 via buying like 3 plus phones over the years for me and my family members, unlocking them and giving them to relatives post the 60 days unlock window)
5) if you want to use this tracfone service with a different phone, you need to buy a $1 to $5 sim at walmart, target, family dollar, dollar general etc other places. This type of sim is called "Tracfone Bring Your Own Phone SIM Kit, No Airtime - Prepaid". You put this sim card in your google pixel phone (or other phone) and then follow the red card which is going to do steps 1 to 4 with your new phone, this in turn transfers your service from the motorola phone to your pixel phone. In theory your motorola should be unlocked in 60 days since it was activated and it just needs to talk to the tracfone / motorola servers. Newer phones use unlock servers similar to iphones for several years now. Some 2023 and earlier android phones do not automatically unlock via wifi after activation with step 4, you had to have service still on the device and then use a tracfone email portal to request an unlock code you enter manually via the number pad.

It looks as if that deal at Walmart is completely sold out. Happen to know of any other similar deals to that one? I'm looking to refill the 1 year plan on my grandparents phone. They have been using an iphone with the Tracfone plan and we'd like to extend the 1 year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So activate the phone from the bundle online and select 'keep current number' this will transfer your current line to the bundle phone + combine your current balance with the 12 months included in the bundle. Then your previous phone should show up as 'deactivated' in your online account. Select reactivate and the same 'keep current number' process and you should be able to move the new extended service back to your original phone.
New phone has it's own sim which will activate the new plan when phone is activated.
