Get a dewalt stealthsonic if you use it regularly and value your hearing. I got one recently per another SD thread recommendation and it's incredible how quiet it is.

The 16 gal is huge and I found it wayyy too cumbersome to use in the house. I'd recommend going a size or two down even if they're the same price or even cost a little more.

Even better, they have a variety of filter options including HEPA. I've had 3 ridgid shop vacs in 30 years only managed to kill one because I used it for water too frequently they are inexpensive but really do the job. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGI.../318553040

One thing I would recommend if you are looking for a shop vac and evaluating these deals....don't just go for price point based on the unit, but also factor what accessories it comes with. Jumped on a similar deal for a similar unit, only to find that any of the attachments are like $17+ a pop. There may be better deals out there with more attachments once you start factoring that in.

I bought the 12 gallon version of this two years ago, and I love it. I'm not a heavy user, but it's done the job well each time I've needed it.

This unit works great as a blower also. Cleaned my patio by using exhaust to blow leaves. Not so good at sucking leaves due to lack of mulcher but I may build one for it.

This is huge and you'll regret it. Get the smaller one. The roughly 6 gal one is the sweet spot

can this be fitted with a HEPA filter for occasional indoor use?(kitchen, bedroom, etc)

thanks!
For occasional indoor use, go with the 4gallon 5hp

If my craftsman capped crapped out is there a warranty with them? I got it from either Lowes or home depot

best bang for the buck. and uses 2-1/2 in so attachments are plentiful

will say this though, before jumping on the large size vac bandwagon....ask yourself if you need something this big. most people would actually find a smaller 4 gallon more useful if all you're doing is using this for your car, or cleaning up dust size debris, shavings, wood dust etc.

the larger vacs are good for larger debris, or if you are frequently filling it with large amounts of water. note that even with this thing 2/3 filled with liquid, it would be EXTREMELY heavy to move and debatable if the casters could even hold the weight if they encounter something on the floor and puts pressure on the bearings

This is a heck of a deal for really nice shop vac. Very thoughtful design as well--there's on-board storage area for all included accessories. Add a little velcro strip for powercord management, and it's a fully contained sucking solution for the garage.

This thing is LOUD! And the exhaust blows like a leaf blower straight out the back, so any dust, paper, etc. that is lying around will go flying into the air. Probably not the best form factor for someone concerned about HEPA for normal house use.
the exhaust is defintely a pro and a con, you can easily swap the hose onto the exhaust and use it as a blower, works quite well actually.

The size is definitely something to consider as mentioned in your last paragraph. Sure, 16 gallons is a lot but if you used it to suck up water, that will be extremely heavy. I had an AC pan I was trying to drain and my dad loaned me his Ridgid 16 gallon. I probably only got about a gallon or less of water but being in the attic, this thing was a monster and very much overkill to get down. At that point, the weight of just the machine was heavier than the water. I couldnt imagine what I'd do if I sucked up 4+ gallons of water + the weight of this tool itself. Everyone's needs vary but please consider the overall size when getting one. I think casual home owners could get away with something half the size or less.

I have this. It's too big. I wish I got something smaller. It's a hassle to carry through door ways, it's a hassle to dump, it's a hassle to move through construction obstacles. I bought it because project farm said it was probably the best unit for the price and performance, but it's just too darn large for typical consumer household mixed use. I say this after owning it about 3 years now. I have been thinking about unloading it on marketplace and buying one about half this size. Good luck even carefully walking through any doorway without banging a doorway, door, or wall. Its so loud you'll want ear plugs if using it for very long indoors. The 16 gallon container is so big its ridiculous, because unless you are using it exclusively for water, by the time the bottom is even 20% full your dust filter will be clogged so much you have to stop the shopvac to clean the filter because you've lost too much suction, which means at that point you might as well be dumping it, sooooo why 16 gallon size? The filter can't handle that much dust/debris.
It's an overkill design, that is built for the Tim Allen types who typically think more/bigger is always better -- I admit I fell for it too.
It's not better. Buy a smaller one.

I definitely need a new one, but these Rigid ones are so damn loud. Amongst other things, I use it to suck out the A/C drain line in the side of the home and it sounds like an airplane is about to take off.
Dewalt has a line that is much quieter, so rather than this one, I just picked one of those up today. Spent $20 more ($89) but I think it's a better value. Not as large as this one, as it's 9 gallons, but to be honest, I have no need for something larger than 9 gallons. Attaching it to my table saw, etc. 9 gallons is enough.

Totally agree with you on choosing the Dewalt Stealthsonic one. It also has more (useful) attachments or nozzles than the Ridgid one.

I've had many smaller ones, but always turn to the big guy with the 2 1/2 inch hose when it's time to clean the shop.

It's so much better as a shop vac, sucking up stray cutoffs, shavings, clippings, stray screws and nails, etc.

The DeWalt you linked is a damned fine utility vacuum, and I have one like that, too. But the big Ridgid is a great buy at $59.99 and having both is so much better than one or the other.
