Obviously if the placebo effect makes you think that decanted whiskey is better, then by all means you should decant your spirit. In realistic terms, unlike wine, whiskey will always have oxygen getting into the bottle every time you open and pour it. Whiskey isn't really affected by exposure to atmospheric oxygen, which is why bars store and pour their expensive bottles directly on the shelf without some fancy nitrogen replacement system.

That bottle of Pappy 23 they've had open for a dram every 6 months for 5 years isn't getting better or worse in normal timeframes, If you think letting it sit in a glass or decanter for 23 more minutes after pouring a dram is going to make a difference, again, that's up to you, but the actual difference is none.

Outside of placebo, whiskey decanters are purely for aesthetics.

Other than a beauty it is needed to get whiskey to contact with air. Good whiskey needs to "breath" at least 1min per year if it's aged. Like 15min for 15yo whiskey. Just pour it into glencairn glass, wait and you really don't need a decanter for not a very fancy whiskey/scotch

I could partially agree with you. Yes, no nitrogen is needed for a spirit and when the bottle is opened and 3/4 full no need to decanter it. However, any whiskey or scotch from the just opened bottle is way better when it has a chance to breath. I found it especially true for young ones like 3-10 years. It also gives you a way better "nose" with less spirit aromas.
It's just my experience and preference.

Don't decant spirits. This is a public service message.

I got the 4-glass version last year for my dad. It's a nice display piece, but the glasses are very thin walled. I'm missing one of them so I suspect my dad broke it. I only use the glasses when I need something smaller than a rocks glass

As a whiskey lover, but fairly tied into just a few that are my go to. Are there any whiskey's that you guys might recommend? My usual is Woodford and the occasional Angel's Envy...TIA

Yeah, the wooden stand that comes with this looks awful. I spray-painted it w/ a metallic oil-rubbed bronze to look somewhat better than the cherry(ish) "plastic wood" look it has.
