Incredible deal for one of the best x86 handhelds out now. Yes there is a newer version which significantly improves battery life and only slightly improves performance. This first gen model is still very capable.

Paid $400 for my fair condition last year. I use it more than my console. So far it's handled Howgarts legacy, Ghosts of Tshima, spiderman remaster and miles morales all on high settings. It's indeed capable but make sure an outlet or powerbank is around cause it gives me about 45 mins on battery alone. Power source also enables higher gaming performance.

I have legion go and I see the benefit of having a larger and better screen but your arms get really tired after playing for 30 mins.

Keep looking...they'll come around again. I regret not getting one for about $400 last year.

This works for me! I actually have a reason to want to game on the go with my PC games for the next few months and the price is right (was able to snag one at 300 + insurance!)

What is the possibility of this getting official Steam OS support?

There are a lot of videos out there for getting these things set up to run their best. You may need to install certain drivers and things like that. To get the best gaming performance make sure you're gaming in Turbo Mode. Also upgrade your BIOS to a newer version (not necessarily the NEWEST version) to get the CPU Boost option. There is also a website called rogallylife that has the best settings for most games to run their best on the Ally. I see it has Marvel Rivals settings on there. One of the first steps is to manually increase your VRAM to 8GB within Armoury Crate.

Best Buy will deny it this time
They approved the 2nd refund in about 2 minutes via Live Chat. Got the email confirmation shortly after. In total, they're refunding me $103.46 from what I paid 2 weeks ago.

Highly recommend putting Bazzite (SteamOS) on the Ally. It turns it into an actual handheld console. I have a 2TB SSD dual booting with Windows on 1TB and Bazzite on 512GB with 512GB of shared BTRFS that windows and bazzite can read. I only boot over to windows to run gamepass games really. During boot, you just hit volume up and then you can select SteamOS or Windows, otherwise it defaults to SteamOS. Running Heroic launcher for Epic Games freebies. Its a great handheld now instead of a wonky Windows machine. I am knowledgeable with Windows, but it is just not the answer for a handheld. It was frustrating to use and had issues at times. Bazzite is not perfect, but it is a much better choice for what the Ally is trying to be. Dual booting both is the best of both worlds.

The Ally excels at indie games like Dredge, Dave the Diver, and Hades. Games that can be easily picked up and played for a bit. I have used it for some heavier games and it runs most decently well. Forza Horizon 5 at around 50-70 fps at decent settings. I tried some multiplayer shooters, but i will leave those to the bigger screens and systems.

Complaints for the Ally are battery life and screen size. Battery life is just not great on AAA games and the 40 Wh battery is not enough. The screen needs to be 8" IMO. Get rid of the bezels and drop the 8" 120hz VRR display from the Legion Go S into the same size chassis. The 7" is fine for what it is doing, but a bigger screen would be great.

I bought the z1e for $315. Also bought a bigger battery for $75 on Alibaba. In total spent $400 comparable to the newest edition
Unfortunately you can't add memory easily, or the extra usb-c port.

I feel like this is just gimping the Ally. I have so many games on other platforms, and this would just make them harder to access. It's the main reason why my Steamdeck has been collecting dust since I got the ally

That's a very user dependent situation. I got a windows PC and a steam deck. I have heroic and some emulators, but I keep running Steam games that run smoothly on the SD. The user experience compared to windows is pretty great. plus the desktop environment is serviceable even if you don't know much about Linux.

If you're arguing about AAA games, I just don't play those on a mobile device anyway. The Ally would be overkill in our house.
