They're partially correct, there's an easy fix. They're using a USB C to C cable on this, which causes that issue. With a USB A to C cable it doesn't have the issue. Sounds weird, but plenty of cheap devices aren't fully compatible with C to C cables. Still better than micro USB....

I have the Restnature version of this and it's been awesome for sleeping at hotels. Tiny size and the sound is loud so I don't even run it at full volume. I wish they'd sprung for a little bigger battery though, I can't get over 7 hours on the battery. If I could get 9, then I could just not leave it plugged in at night.
This is a cool little gadget. It's about the size of a k-cup!

It's interesting what a reviewer said about charging the device while using it:
"When the USB cord is connected the machine will not allow you to turn on device. But if you turn it on and then plug it in it seems to work.- It can't be used while plugged in. You have to charge it and use it unplugged. (Although I did see another reviewer claim they found a work around for this)."

I'm unsure how that works, but I'd definitely expect to be able to use it while plugged in. If this reviewer's assessment is accurate, you'd have to unplug it, turn it on, then plug it in again. This may be cumbersome if used dailly (or nightly).
yeah, but then you need to leave your phone running all night.

also this is commonly used in children's rooms. if you use your phone, then your phone is tied up in the kids room all night long

Amazon is absolutely flooded with these portable noise machines. You might as well wait when you get 3 of these for $10 eventually. I don't really get their use, any mini bluetooth speaker is better than this.

I bought two of these awhile back (not related to this current deal) and was disappointed to find that when using the timer function the sound they generate ends abruptly (i.e. there is no fade out).

I returned them because of that (that abrupt cut-off of the sound would jar me awake).
Why not just let it run all night? I have 5 variants of full size white noise machines, both with real fans internally and electric speaker versions. None of them have a fade-out option, I definitely wouldn't expect this one to.

If sound quality isn't important, them just get the cheapest white noise machine. If sound quality can be a distraction, you can't just buy any old machine. Bought a cheap one and while it works, I couldn't sleep necause the speakers had a fuzz that bothered me for sleep. It works okay for blocking lawn maintenance from neighbors.

The more expensive machines have better speakers at louder volumes and indistinguishable noise looping, so you can't hear where the loop starts and ends. The speaker doesn't sound "buzzy" (until after I have uaed the machine for a year.)

Depends on how particular a person is.

Whoa that physical machine sounds cool. I always use a fan so I guess that's a similar concept.
Yeah, it's principally exactly like a fan's noise. Sometimes in the Winter fans aren't the best and these machines don't actually blow air. Tho the break down on the page shows the metal pieces moving in such a way that they'd move air. I've had mine apart to clean the dust out and the pieces aren't built like this one. Oh, and I've had two of them used daily for over ten years so they're durable.

Would this mask snoring noise?
No, for that, you need to buy a roll of duct tape.

some concerns about battery wear and tear on phones, suspect app privacy policy, phone notifications in middle of night.. But to each their own, I like dedicated device sometimes that is easy to operate. Took some getting used to first night, trying different sounds. Babbling brook sounded like rain on my metal roof so that was ok but I went with the white fan noise.

More noise choices might be nice but my main complaint is you have to unplug it to operated it then plug it back in to make it through the night.. I need 9hrs plus so I just let it run all the time now. I think I'm sleeping better so it's worth it to me.

Got mine today. Found 1 suitable "noise". Tiny device. Really the size of an egg or a little less.

Happy with purchase.

Respectfully, I think many people are missing the point if you're thinking about apps or bluetooth speakers. The goal is for this to untie your phone from any and all usage. No worrying about data tracking. No streaming and the data utilized by such (albeit small). No accidental casting of other sounds/apps from your phone through the speaker. No leaving old phones or whatever in your kid's room.

The use of this is to just be used for the noise. Nothing more.

The comment I was looking for.

What would they make the battery life so short? Dying in the early hours of the morning and waking you up would defeat the purpose. Plugging it in makes it not very portable. Bummer
