It's the Extreme version, and still the best chipset in the handhelds on market as the Z2 Extreme isn't out in anything yet despite being around the corner. I think this is a great price for where we are, and $199 should be the non-Extreme version price, or whatever cost is so they can unload them for the new models. Anyways, this thing is great and only has several downsides, the battery being the biggest issue along with cooked sd card reader, memory pool, and not using hall sticks (they are still good though), a good deal at this price to use and see if you would actually use one before spending more on a handheld. I picked this up last time it was FP. I'm happy with it! The battery life is a the only minus. I get about 1.5 hours on a modern 2D game, and about the same streaming from my PC. Build quality is nice. I like the sticks. I heard the SD card slot is still a big problem (melting down!) so I've avoided using it. Although the USB 3 works great for add-on storage.
If you need Windows this is a no brainer for the price. Otherwise hold out for a referb Steam Deck. IMO.

Edit...
The case is a nice touch. Feels/looks premium for a freebie.

I have an R4 and it has a bad micro sd card slot. I just submitted an RMA for a "fix".

I have to drop everything to 720P low resolution to make it playable off the power cord.

Arcade type games play easily on this. It takes time getting used to the controls.

For those who sail the high seas, is the installation of files as easy as it is on Windows on a desktop? Since this too runs Windows?

The open box prices have increased, so you should update the post with the new prices. For me it shows:

Fair: $337.99
Good: $361.99
Excellent: $422.99

FYI: this is not the "X" version which has double the battery life and I believe storage as well.

I would say Steam Deck for the support of the community and Valve customer service.

The Rog has more horses under the hood, but the overall user experience, mods, support, community, and battery life are not as good as the Deck.

I own both and prefer the Deck.

That entirely depends on how you're going to use it. If you already have a sizable Steam library and want something that (more or less) works straight out the box, then go with the Steam Deck. It also has huge community support with things like Decky to help customize things to your liking.

If you want something with more horse power under the hood and prefer Windows (which comes with its own benefits) over Linux, then go with the ROG. It also has strong community support and modding scene that will help you get things set up to your liking.

If I didn't already have a Steam Deck and a decent gaming rig, I probably would've jumped on this deal. But that's just my take, take the time to look into what each device offers for your own personal preferences and go from there, but you really can't go wrong either way.

For those considering an upgrade, adding a 2TB SSD is a great move—makes a huge difference in usability.

How was the condition? I'm on the fence between new and open box.

Would a 4 TB or 8 also work?

This is portable assuming you are near plug, so good for flights, traveling
"portable"... meaning you can play it when you get to your hotel room, not for the bus/train ride in to work Wink

Going to bite. Found this review of the Asus Ally useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJFa5WNsH34
Just picked it up at BB, added the $10 silicon case cover and it works great. Setup takes forever but the build quality is really good.
