AS a person who owns several controllers, I always go OEM and fine those the best on the market , made by nintendo. Switch pro controller. 8bitdo also makes good controllers
I think Horipad is also outstanding , i just like OEM
just my personal opinion , and this is going back to even 90s consoles snes, genesis , nes.

I have 2 switch pro controllers, 3 Xbox wireless controller, and 2 8bido Ultimate Bluetooth controllers.
When not factoring in stick drift, Xbox Wireless Controller is my favorite, but Switch Pro is also excellent (except the Dpad is horrible!). The 8bitdo ultimate controller is hands down the worst one.
The shape contributes to hand/shoulder fatigue, but more importantly the bluetooth is incredibly unreliable. Whenever my son and I play games in proximity to each other, the controllers go crazy and disconnect. Very disappointing experience with 8bitdo.
Waiting for Switch Pro 2 Controller.

i have not seen anyone ever make a better controller than the og controllers that they came with the console.
retrobit genesis is ok but i found a 35 yo genesis 6 button still feels better
same with SNES i can do a fireball with ease just how i remembered it on the d pad on a OEM snes controller and even the snes classic controller but getting on the 8bit do i had problems, buttons were different feel too.
i have had good experience with 8bitdo m30 , 8bitdo neo geo cd controller,
i just like OEM , even the NES controllers made back in 1986 work better than 8bitdo for me.

It's been Nintendo's layout since the SNES. Microsoft reversed it to set themselves apart.
