I am pro-shredder. Anything with my name/address or anything else... shred. I have been through many shredders.

My experience with cheap shredders is they do 1/4 of what they advertise. So if it says "8 sheet" that means 2 IRL.

And NEVER put a modern credit card into one of these to shred. Modern cards have metal and RF circuitry in them and will lock a shredder up. I had a unit that was a BOSS that could totally do 10 real sheets at a time, CD media etc no problem. Threw a credit card at it and it seized it up. Took it apart and pulled the metal bits out with needle nose pliers the best I could... still never worked again. And that one was a $200 one.

Cheap ones like these are fine, just go EASY and SLOW. And when it breaks, oh well it was only $20

Mr. or Mrs. Pro Shredder, what shredder would you recommend? I'm not trying to shred 100 sheets at a time but my wife's been complaining to me about getting her one and through my (little) research, you get what you pay for even with name brands

Well small shredder almost always break in around 1 year mark so set your expectations accordingly... Typically Amazon brand is easiest to replace within warranty period they basically just send you a new one so i would absolutely wait for a Amazon basic shredder.

Got in on this printer a while ago https://slickdeals.net/f/17152297-member-s-mark-c274a-100-sheet-auto-feed-shredder-44-free-shipping?attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3ATrue%7CSearch%3AType%3Anormal%7CSearch%3ASort%3Arelevance%7CSearch%3AHideExpired%3AFalse&src=SiteSearchV2Algo1

And it's been the best printer I've used. Auto shedding works great and has no issue shedding 10-20 pages at a time but it's no longer available.

I would suggesting either an Amazon basic small shredder or an office/big shredder

I mean any cross cut shredder is fine for a year or 2, just don't expect them to last forever. Also you'll need to get in there and clean the gears out, stuff gets wedged in there especially if you shred anything plastic bag label or adhesive backed (like a ups label / receipt)

I mean there is nothing consumer grade that is indestructible. I had a long time ago I had a $500 monster shredder as big as R2D2 that would plow wood, but it eventually seized up on something and couldn't be saved. So nowadays, I don't spend more than $50-100 and just replace them when they seize up. Staples / store warranties are a thing.

Cheap shredders may not last forever, but unless you are using them for an office they are just fine. They will last way more than 1 or 2 years.

I just jumped on this deal, because my Aurora AS502MX shredder just gave up the ghost after twenty, yes 20 years. I bought my stepdaughter an Aurora 8-sheet shredder when she went to college at 18. She is turning 30 this year and it is going strong.

I routinely used and abused mine. It was a 5-sheet shredder and I used it more than an order of magnitude > than its duty cycle. Routinely shredding more than 5 sheets at a time and dozens of credit cards.

Not bad, considering I got it for free after rebate at Best Buy. Those were the days, if you were patient you could get many PC supplies, accessories and peripherals for little to no money after rebate.

The build quality from 20 years ago to now has reduced significantly. So I dont expect this one to last 20years

This. Bought Amazon Basic 8 pages. It's a laugh. Barely runs 4 pages. I shredded 2 or 3 pages at a time and it stopped every around 15, 20 pages.

To replace a 20+ year old basic shredder that stopped working, I bought the ´Aurora AS890C 8-Sheet Cross-Cut Paper/Credit Card Shredder with Basket' on Amazon in July for $26.13 +tax, I see it at $22.64 today.
I like the confetti-style shredding, IMO much better than the old shredder that made strips (paper takes less room in the basket), I feel I can feed it several pages and they are easily pulled in (I never tried up to 8 as I don't want to jam it), I also like the plastic window allowing me to see the level of paper in the basket.
