I really wish Google would just go ahead and implement a feature on Android that would allow ANY Android device to update the location of a tag, much like Apple does with their airtags. t's next to useless in my eyes considering only a quarter of people in the US actually have a Samsung device versus Apple users at 60%.

Bumping it up from 25% to 40% by implementing some sort of ability to update a 'Google Tag' would make an android based tag much more feasible...

These things are fantastic, particularly if you have a Plus or Ultra model phone with UWB. I was concerned about the network coverage originally, but I leave one attached to a bike outside, and it gets location updates pretty regularly when somebody with a Samsung phone walks by. Battery life on the 2nd Gen devices is hugely improved, and the newer form factor is nice - the shape and textures are very satisfying to fidget with. The built in keychain is a nice touch.

I honestly use my keys to find my phone much more frequently than the other way around, so it's been when more useful than anticipated. This is a great price for a single, though I have seen 4 packs for $15 each.

bluetooth.
all Samsung with Android 11 and up.
not automatically opted in.
you have to install the Samsung Smart Things App.
you can opt out, but you lose the ability to track your own tags.

I wonder if this would qualify for anti theft device stated for an insurance premium deduction?

No, they only from the Bluetooth of Samsung devices as far as I'm aware. Not android as a whole. Which cripples their actual real world practicality.
you do know that samsung's market share is 23%, apple is 28%. it's not really crippled... but if any android it would work better, but why would everyone else let samsung make money? be nice is any phone could update a universal tag protocol...

it does if you tell them you have an 'active subscription anti-theft device'

I have the older version of these and recently used them on our trip to England. Granted, it was a cheap battery (and several years old), but I laughed when it started to give a low battery warning after about 3 weeks.

I think I'll buy two of these and load all four, old and new, with new batteries that I ordered to have a competition. Maybe I can get more than a month out of the old ones.

[edit] Yikes, arriving in early to mid April. Plan ahead!
I have the first gen tags that work. When they introduced these I bought it because they no longer sold the first gen. I had to return them because it constantly chirps. And the battery would only last about 2-3 weeks. That is why i returned them. I doubt they fixed the constant chirping, unless someone can confirm they no longer chirp at random times.

This is my dislike of Samsung SmartTag2.

The Tracking DO NOT HAVE HISTORY.

The Tracking DO NOT UPDATE in the background.

When you first open the app after a long while,
it will show you the last location,
which could be a day, a month, a year ago,
depending on when was the last time you opened the app.
You have to click Refresh to Update.
First location update takes 1 minute to 10 minutes.
Updates are about 2 minute to 6 minutes behind.
2 minutes is the MAX update frequency.

For,
checking if you left your bag at your house or your friend's house.
NOT FOR,
tracking and chasing thief who just stole your gear.

For,
checking if your luggage is at your destination Airport.
NOT FOR,
which direction your luggage is within the Airport.

The direction finding feature is a joke.
The direction finding feature is only available when you are within 10 paces or so.
If you are playing Hide and Seek in the same bedroom, then the feature works as show in ADs.
If you are wondering which direction your luggage is located inside an airport,
then by the time the direction finding feature turns on,
you would have seen your luggage, walked 10 paces, loaded your luggage onto your cart, and started to walk away.

Not sure how Samsung Air Tag compares to Apple Air Tag.
Does Apple Air Tag show history?
How quickly does Apple Air Tag update?
I was thinking of getting this for our dog because it said it has real time tracking. Looks like I'd never find her if she is lost and running.

I was hoping that Samsung would come out with one that works with Google's new Find My Device, but from everything I read it doesn't seem that reliable anyway.
I'll pick one up since it's pretty cheap and put it in my car. I'm hoping it makes finding my car in a parking lot a little easier.

It's the global edition, so there is no US warranty if that matters to you.

Horrible, bought 4 packs. What a waste. Get an update every 30 mins to an hour that's also in a public area.

I didn't go with Samsung because it's proprietary to Samsung, whereas Google's Find My Device works with any Android phone running Android 9 or later, as long as it has Google Play Services app installed (most do)

For some reason, Best Buy has the Chipolo on clearance for $14, which is odd since it's a new product... I just grabbed two more!

Thanks for the heads up. They're $15 in my store,

In the US, yes. But worldwide Apple and Samsung are essentially equal. So if you travel out of the US you're better off with the Samsung since most of the concentration of Apple is in the United States.

It is not a Google product. Why would Google favor Samsung (a competitor in the phone market) over any other company. No reason. Apple does the exact same thing. You don't see Apple offering to track competitors tags.
