I really wish Google would just go ahead and implement a feature on Android that would allow ANY Android device to update the location of a tag, much like Apple does with their airtags. t's next to useless in my eyes considering only a quarter of people in the US actually have a Samsung device versus Apple users at 60%.

Bumping it up from 25% to 40% by implementing some sort of ability to update a 'Google Tag' would make an android based tag much more feasible...

These things are fantastic, particularly if you have a Plus or Ultra model phone with UWB. I was concerned about the network coverage originally, but I leave one attached to a bike outside, and it gets location updates pretty regularly when somebody with a Samsung phone walks by. Battery life on the 2nd Gen devices is hugely improved, and the newer form factor is nice - the shape and textures are very satisfying to fidget with. The built in keychain is a nice touch.

I honestly use my keys to find my phone much more frequently than the other way around, so it's been when more useful than anticipated. This is a great price for a single, though I have seen 4 packs for $15 each.

bluetooth.
all Samsung with Android 11 and up.
not automatically opted in.
you have to install the Samsung Smart Things App.
you can opt out, but you lose the ability to track your own tags.

Would like to know if this only works with Samsung phones or any Android phone?
According to this article, it only works on Samsung phones.

And based on my experience, this seems to be correct. Reading this site, there seems to be some work arounds, but nothing native. This is why fragmented android support is very difficult to get a universal solution that just works. Sometimes I just wished I have an iPhone instead.

uTag allows any Android phone to use the Samsung tags. It was just released a few weeks ago so that's why you might not know about it.

I see walmart has the same price, and cheaper 4 packs. Same thing?

This is my dislike of Samsung SmartTag2.

...
If you are playing Hide and Seek in the same bedroom, then the feature works as show in ADs.
...

well now you're talking a use case I hadn't thought of! My girlfriend has a Samsung phone too...

Can this be put on a dog's collar and used to track them if they get out the yard?

Yes, they're cases out there specifically made for the leashes.

I believe these are only for Google Find My Device, and I went with these because there are a whole lot of Android phones out there. I was thinking about getting the credit card one too, but I didn't like the fact that you couldn't change the battery, at least for the Chipolo one; it was a throwaway, and I hate e-waste. I would like them to provide one where you can recharge the battery.
Mine has a little solar panel. Only down side is there is no way to tell how much juice is left in the battery
