Many of them present as Xbox Series X controllers when you connect them (especially via Bluetooth) but Steam and other controller emulators can't address them properly.
If these features matter to you, it's always going to be less of a headache to get an official controller and replace the sticks with hall effect ones (they're $10 for a set on Amazon).
I'm not sure why, but it seems like people are so much worse at experimenting and sharing info than they were about 10 years ago, so trying to figure out if an obscure controller works with Steam fully sometimes requires buying it and testing it yourself.

If you are only using it for PC (and/or Switch), I suggest considering a few other options as well, such as the Flydigi Vader 4 Pro and Gamesir Cyclone 2. I think you can get either under $40 or cheaper with coupons on AliExpress or Temu (shipped from US). They have better thumbsticks (Hall Effect or TMR), more buttons, and come with a wireless dongle (better connection than bluetooth). The probable lack of warranty/support is the biggest negative. Say want you want about Xbox, but at least their warranty process is generally super easy and fast.
My regular Xbox Series controller is still fine after several years, but my Xbox Elite Series 2 controller got sent back twice for stick drift in under a year. I never had drift with any of my Sony controllers yet either. Currently, my main controllers are the Vader 4 Pro, Elite Series 2, and DualSense.
You can also install DualSenseX or DS4Windows which adds an extra emulation layer for games that only support XBox controllers.
As for the newer XBox Core controllers, they've improved support for wireless connections without using a dongle (Bluetooth), additional buttons are mappable, and the haptics work wirelessly. The new trigger haptics work in some games or they can be set to engage with trigger presses.
Since you already have DS5 controllers, I would definitely try getting them working with Steam. The added features seem to be a step up from the XBox controllers and the compatibility is perfect now (at least from what I've tested with the Switch controller).

I haven't received it yet but it's currently $23 on Amazon.
Hall effect sticks and triggers, rumble, programmable RGB, and it's supposed to work with XInput and the Switch.
