These (26GB) are EXOS Enterprise drives not the crappy non-Pro Barracudas like the 20-24TB models with only 1-year warranty. Seagate doesn't make a 26TB Barracuda.

I ordered one, says it'll arrive Thursday. I'll update this post with what I find inside.

Edit: ST26000DM000 mfg date 02/2025. Seagate website indicates the serial # on the drive is a Barracuda w/ 1yr warranty. Oh well, looks like the days of discount exos are gone, and I'll be returning this one.

It's a 26gb barracuda until proven otherwise.

Why are we arguing about shucking and what's inside? Why not use it as-is, connected to RPi5/PC? In a practical application, if you're storing a media (say, video file), it doesn't matter how it's connected to your NAS, speedwise, right? Trying to understand the itch to shuck
One observation that I have is that the palstic enclosure for these "portable" drives are not good for cooling the HDD inside. Consistent running would require better cooling that typical chasis or NAS enclosure offers. (At least there is a fan that move air around.)

The other consideration is that the HDD would be stopped/started frequently in the enclosure, that will reduce the disk life on the long run.

The last point is that the small enclosure is easier to be "moved" accidentally, where typical NAS or chasis have a more stable stand. (Recall that HDD could be damaged with sudden move.)

shucking is good for every HDD...

Actually a good deal, last external that went on a great sale was from Costco, I bought 2 14TB of exact same external drive for $150 each. Physically buying one 26TB drive comes out to $11.5/TB vs the Costco deal at $10.7/TB but that is loooong gone and wont come around again. Easy to shuck FYI.

Could it be same as the 24TB - Early orders are EXOS and later ones Barracudas, once they run out of the old inventory i.e...

I already spent 3.20T out of 14T available on my storage. Feels like I'm an inch from running out of space

so that you don't need to pull any extra wires. power adapters, and in not increase potential failure chance in some other way

Good for the HDD, but not the warranty. I label the purchase date on the drive and shuck when the warranty runs out.

I don't use traditional NAS (just no need today) and primarily have Time Machines and cloud backups running per old MacBook I use with AlDente to protect the battery.

macOS is now demoted to glorified file manager. Same as it ever was.
