tl;dr: It is easy to control top and bottom temps, can get to higher 800F vs 500F in regular oven, takes less time to pre-heat (20 min to reach 800F vs 30-45 if pre-heating stone or steel to 500-550F in big oven)
************************

It's a very good question. This oven will get the temperature (both the bottom stone and top can be controlled separately and precisely) to a much higher temperature than your kitchen stove's oven (which probably maxes out around 500-550F. That is useful for certain types of pizzas, such as Neapolitan-style pizzas needing such high temperatures (650-800F).

The smaller size of this oven also means it takes less time and electricity to pre-heat, though it will still take about 20 minutes. If you use a pizza stone or baking steel in your conventional oven, it can take half an hour or longer to get the stone or steel pre-heated in order to cook the pizza crust just right. The small pizza ovens have the heating element right under the stone so it heats faster.

At $80, this is at a price point where it may be practical to get if you plan to make or re-heat pizzas often, more so than spending $200-$900 on similar electric pizza ovens, where you may be better off just buying a pizza stone/steel for $20-$30 and using in your regular oven if you just make an occasional pizza. If you make pizzas bigger than 12", you need to do that in your regular oven.

EDIT: Some of the comments from those using this or similar ovens who are experimenting making different pizzas, is that you really have to experiment and adjust the temperatures of the bottom stone and top heating element to get the right combination for the style of pizza you are making, and this is easier to do with a small oven where you can set separate temps for each.

This was our 1st pizza oven so don't have what to compare it to, but the pizza my wife makes in it tastes really good

Also, when we 1st opened it, my wife dropped the pizza stone while unboxing it and it cracked. We reached out to Gourmia and they sent us a new stone free of charge. So really happy with the customer service

The Ooni 12" electric pizza oven is something like 1000% more expensive (so you can buy 11 Gourmia pizza ovens for one Ooni). You can do a search for reviews of the Gourmia and Ooni. I think there are very few people who have both to compare side by side.

Here's one of the Gourmia: https://youtu.be/641zMpkqiR8?si=qD8Lz-WoC4RcXMIO
Here's one of the Ooni: https://youtu.be/LSq8kIcxUXQ?si=3j5Z4yUE_z6_UGPn

I have Target version but I fail to make any good pizza ... but that could be my problem.

If you know art of making good pizza this will be useful and you can get ooni level of results ... but if you suck already don't expect this will solve the problem.

I knew I suck or don't make pizza that often so I saved money by experiment on this one instead of 10x price on ooni.

Mine is Target version and it get used as Air Fryer but footprint is big for this as compare to other Air Fryers.

The fail rate on the panel/control is high. Already been through one. Buy the Allstate warranty or enjoy this thing for one safe year if you make it past the first few uses. It makes a great pizza. I have the Ooni version as well. They are in different classes but also price categories.

An air fryer I had from Gourmia failed a few weeks short of a year -- no heat from the heating element. I had the receipt, contacted them, and was sent a new one after I sent them a picture of the bad one with its cord cut. I imagine there is no additional warranty on the new one.

Not this model, but I used a Pizello (wood/gas) model using pellets. While it did get hot with pellets, I preferred just doing a reverse sear (slow cook in oven at low temp to get the steak to about 120-125F) and then finish with a torch, which instantly sears and makes the crust without overcooking the steak, or in a hot carbon steel pan.

I think any prolonged cooking with food that can splatter may leave residue that can smoke when you are cooking other items. That's maybe not so much a problem if you pre-heat this Gourmia outside, though.

I bought one when it was $88. I was wanting a pizza oven and had been looking at the outdoor wood fire types. I saw this one on SD and thought at this price and it being winter I'd give it a try. So glad that I did! I bought some pre-made dough at Kroger and commenced to making pizzas for the family. My kids said they'd never have to go out for Pizza ever again! They love watching the crusts bubble up and really loved the taste. I bought some gluten free crust and had the same results. So good. And fast.
I bought a cheap $10 peel at Amazon and it works ok-pizzas still tend to stick to it. Then I got a "sliding peel" from amazon-game changer. No more sticking. I was so impressed by this bad boy I bought one for my daughter and one for my cousin. They both love theirs. I added the Allstate warranty to all three just in case.

Used it once. The pizza was good for using the very first time. Was excited to experiment more the following week but it broke while it was preheating. The LED lights went crazy, became unresponsive and we took it back.

Am I to understand you're judging failure rates from a sample size of one?

Are there any that don't take up space? :| Do a bit of research and you will see why an oven like this is different.

The Walmart site has about 200 reviews so one should read some of those:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/GOURMI...5670704407

There are about 11% 1-star reviews (78% 5-star), some mentioning electronic panel/control problems, but that may not be significantly more than any other electric pizza oven, and you can ignore the ones that give 1-star reviews because the oven "burned the pizza" or the pizza got stuck, or some other reason not really related to the operation of the oven.

I got one of these in December. Worked great, used it 2-3 times a week and 3 weeks in the control panel freaked out and kept beeping, and the - button kept going off, its very loud. Couldn't get it to stop, returned it. Really liked it, might get another with the warranty incase it decided to flip out again.

Agreed. I have a convection oven on my stove and a separate convection oven. There is no comparison. I got this awhile back at 88 bucks and use it at least once a week. It is a little small at 12 inches, but makes excellent homemade pies and elevates frozen ones to a new level compared to a normal oven. It easily gets to 800 and I highly recommend it.

Would love a link to the sliding peel you bought on amazon and anything else you recommend to make family pizza night easier. I did search but there were so many different brands and you cant trust amazon reviews anymore... even with fakespot.

May be very silly question but if we have large oven included with the cooktop then why people need this explicitly. Does this make pizzas better than that oven? Just wanted to understand. Thanks
The difference is temperature, a regular oven will get to 550F. This gets to 800F. Neapolitan pizza is traditionally cooked in a wood or coal oven over coals at this temp. For nearly every other pizza style, NY, Chicago, thin crust, an oven with a pizza stone will be fine. This is for if you want the "purist" Neapolitan experience, the "arte del pizzaiolo napoletano" with the leopard spotting and quick cooking. If you don't know what any of that is, you won't notice a difference.
