Since I already had Hue color lights and Hub, I'm glad I had a chance to try this for a few days with a low price. Personally, I felt I wouldn't want to continue with the subscription.
The app is buggy, the functionality itself is underwhelming in real world use.
Granted I didn't have the recommended 'Philips Hue TV Lightstrip' that would've given a much better effect. But the idea itself seems more like a party trick, something very novel that you might be interested to try a few times, show off to guests what your setup can do, but then I don't see this being a daily driver.
If you are into the Philips Hue ecosystem, this app is a cheap and easy way to try to experience what the sync box does. If you really like it, then you could either continue the monthly subscription, pay a one-time fee for a lifetime subscription tied to a single TV (bad idea IMO), or buy a Sync box (no sub needed).
