Elitism of this nature will empty your pockets unnecessarily quick. AM4 is still very relevant. Maybe no reason for you to buy but there are 8 billion other people on this planet who aren't you.
Just because it isn't the latest doesn't mean it's garbage -- this is still a powerful processor
Great deal. If you are on AM4 and still on 1 or 3 series I'd jump on this.

It could work depending on what motherboard you have. If that model has a BIOS update that will support 5000 series CPU, then you are good to go. Youll need to look up the model of your motherboard and see if it has a BIOS update to support 5000 series CPU.

Am4 they're just trying to clear garbage now
I'm on a 3600X and there's almost nothing where it's limiting.

You might be right, but my RAM is running smoothly on a pretty big OC right now. I'm reluctant to change a thing.

I guess I meant that AM4 is old AF. It was introduced in 2016, theres no reason to do any builds with AM4 in 2025 except if you're desperate and upgrading an old system

If you already have a 5000 series Ryzen I would say no, do not upgrade. If the 8 core x3d chip goes on sale (which if it does, won't be by much) then maybe. Ryzen 3000 series, maybe, depending on what chip you have. Personally if it's a 4 or 6 core I'd say yes, if it's 8, probably not worth it.

Anything older than would be a great upgrade. Keep in mind you need to check your board's manufacturer to see if it supports Ryzen 5000. If it does you MUST upgrade the bios BEFORE you swap chips.

I've been thinking of upgrading my 5600x + 3070 Ti lately (running 2k on 100hz ultrawide), but each time I just have the Nvidia app's performance panel open while playing Cyberpunk or Baldur's Gate [3] it maxes out the GPU while the CPU stays at ~50-60%, so it seems like as a few others have said here that only the x3D CPU chips would make a noticeable difference. Yes?

It's $164 at Newegg not $129 like others have pointed out too. I doubt if they did match the $129 they would still include the "free" ram. Are you saying you did get it at $128 PLUS the free ram? So far you haven't responded to anyone.

So, I tried ordering from newegg and then talking to cs through chat and they offered half the difference price match by the way of an $18 gift card.

This is a Dell 5675 with first gen Ryzen 1700. Apparently windows 11 support doesnt start until 2nd gen ryzens. And dell is too crappy to update bios to make compatible.

Rumor is this processor wont work. But some speculate it will. If i tried it...would it damage anything? Of just not run?

I was researching this as an upgrade to 3600XT and it doesnt seem like much improvement. Wish they had those 5700x3d in production still...
