A comment like this shows your lack of understanding.... pharmaceutical industries are highly regulated...a generic alternative has been tested to meet the performance of the branded...a cheap knock off on Amazon has 0 testing for any actual performance...anyone could be a third party selling anything you want with any claims you want...use some common sense.

I'm seeing 4 pack generics on Amazon for under $9 each. Is the quality that much different?
I think so. I have probably tried 15-20 different brands of generic filters and have yet to have seen one last more than 6 months. I typically get 9-12 months out of the OEM filters depending on where they are located in the house (e.g. where the dog sleeps vs unoccupied bedrooms). That said, I'm now down to just a couple C535 units because they have all developed significant motor whine and have enough OEM filters from Costco deals that I won't need to buy any more of them thankfully. I've either returned the bad ones to Costco or managed to get a credit from extended warranty from my credit card. I wish I could say that was from using the generic filters but the reports of this happening across various Winix C535 and C545 air purifiers is pretty well-known. We have started switching to Levoit and Coway branded air purifiers for these reasons and won't buy any more Winix. Their customer service was absolutely atrocious as well literally recommending me to an electrician to try fix or replace the motor lol.

That's a hell of a recommendation from Winix, it will most likely cost more to get it repaired than to buy a new one.

I've 4 Winix C545 running from 1-4 years (since COVID) so far still running 24/7 on auto. I replace the carbon pads quarterly and the HEPA every 6-9 months. I should clean the prefilter more often.

I also run 2 Airmega 300 and 2 Airmega 400 around the house 24/7 on auto and a Germguardian in the basement.

For my personal use, Airmega in the larger rooms and I think Winix is great in smaller rooms.
