So do you keep a LiION battery with it in the car? I have one and love it but don't want to keep it for emergencies since I don't want to ruin my Dewalt batteries.

That was my thought as well. This thing should have a 12v backup plug regardless. I don't want to get stuck on the roadside bc I consumed my batteries with the fan and flashlight.

it's fantastic, you just dial in the pressure and hit play. I hate hate hate having to use gas station air pumps in freezing/blazing weather

It's on the rear label of the device itself, to the right of the "DCC020IB" model number. Of course, that means opening it.

If the box has "20V Max" at the upper right, there's a good chance it's Type 2, but maybe not if they have resumed making Type 1. Most (all?) Type 1 units have "20V Max" in a box on the left, half-way down and places next to the boxes that show 12v lighter and optional AC power.
"DCC020IB" model number is Type 1 ?

There's DCC020IB Type 1 and DCC020IB Type 2. The type is not specified anywhere else because they are considered the same product. The type number is basically the hardware revision but people noticed Type 2 appeared to be faster and more reliable with parts from a different supplier. It's all conjecture and anecdotes but I can say that I researched buying a broken one to fix and all of them were either Type 1 or indeterminate (label not readable). The most common issue I saw was Type 1 units that stop working with the 20V Max battery but continue working with the 12v DC/AC input.

Yes, it has a 12v auto lighter jack cable stowed in a side panel so you only need the 20V Max tool battery if you are going to operate away from your vehicle. Fun fact: The optional AC adapter plus into the same spot as the included DC lighter cord, so you can get any 10A 12~14.8V AC adapter to use with the included cable.

I've seen this deal come up a few times and decided to pull the trigger last time (price matched to Lowes to get the 5% -- and I'm glad I did. It's come in handy multiple times so far.

I have this (maybe the first generation) and I love it. I have a full size compressor but always go to this for airing tires, filling up pull toys, etc. Works well and last a while on battery.
Ditto. If you are dewalt family you should have at least one of these.

FYI If you want to plug into an 110v outlet, you have to buy an AC cord separately.

I have this, I have two Ryobi. I got tired of these big inflators with expensive batteries. I gave Costco a chance and this was the best decision ever. The company called Fanttik, the build quality is insane, the tire pressure adapter is made of metal, not plastic like all of these and they do wear out. It's extremely accurate and will inflate to the perfectly accurate psi, which none of these units will do. I realize not everyone has Costco membership, but… this unit is also only $50:

Yeah, this doesn't sound like a shameless vendor plug. Like, how would you know what the build quality is like? Oh and btw, will this also inflate your air mattress and pool? ok. I'll bite for the sake of giving you the benefit of doubt.... what was it exactly that the Dewalt unit didnt do well for you, other than " I got tired "?

This DeWALT inflator has a brass chuck, not plastic. It replaced my CAT PPSCL3 that I got from Costco, which also had a brass chuck. The problem with the CAT was that there was too much resistance between the chuck and the hose causing the hose to twist when threading the chuck. That twist would spring back a quarter turn with each half turn you put into threading the chuck. It makes it take twice as long and lose twice as much air when connecting/disconnecting.

I think I got a type 1 manufacture date in the back is 2024 33-B3

Yeah, people say that's likely a Type 1 and I can confirm my Type 2 was in a different box ("20V Max" moved to top-right). There seem to be a lot of Type 1 and Type 2 units in the same date ranges so I'm not sure they ever stopped making Type 1.
