Nice to see this deal come up again. I bought it a month or so ago and have been piecing my 5.1.4 system together and it's been great.

How do you like it? How does it compare? What's great about it? (Sincere question)

The only thing to note about this receiver is people have reported it limiting power to the speakers without notification (similar to issues found with other Onkyo and Pioneer receivers like the rz50.) Not sure how widespread it is, or if it will pop up with "normal" users that don't have super power hungry speakers but is something to keep in mind (again, this reportedly also affects the twin, RZ50 so it's not limited to this less expensive option.) That said, it's a *really* good price on a 9 channel (powered *AND* pre-amp) receiver that I am trying not to buy to replace my Denon x2800h 7 channel (also bought from here, for roughly this price nearly 2 yrs ago) that has been requiring unplugging every so often when I turn on/off the two displays connected to it as apparently that confuses it but it would be nice to use a couple more of my speakers for height so....

It was a big upgrade to my Yamaha tsr-700. I use an external amplifier for the front left/right speakers to negate the power issue mentioned above. Dirac works great, this reciever is a wonderful value.

Agreed - I'm upgrading from a Yamaha TSR-7850 as I needed more channels. This one supports higher resolutions (8k) and framerates, has more channels and preamps, has Dirac (though I have not used it yet), cleaner interface, etc.

I'm still setting up my media room but this AVR has a ton of features at this price point that won't limit my options for expansion over the next few years at least.

The twin to the RZ50 is actually the DRX 5.4. The DRX 3.4 Onkyo equivalent is actually the 7100 (don't be fooled by the addition of the pre-outs).

This receiver is a great value but really depends on how power hungry your speakers are! Perfect for anyone wanting to use it as a prepro!

I would only swap out the 2800 if you really want to try Dirac RC.

I bought this AVR last time, seemed like a good deal price/features. But it definitely seems to have audio switching issues. It makes loud pops between media source switching from various sources. Example, hooked up to PC is pretty poor until I'm playing a game but in general use, pops a ton. Then even using apple tv+ it's popping in YouTube between video and commercials and back out to home etc. Kind of disappointed with this thing. :-(

looking online people have mentioned it has problems with earc so maybe that's what I'm encountering for some of this? I've fully updated the firmware.

Fine, just broke down and finally ordered this. Been dinking around with getting it for the past 6 months to upgrade the bedroom system. Just running a bookshelf KEF Q system in there, so not worried about the power limiting, and will be in a fairly open cabinet. The post above and some of the switching issues give me a bit of pause. Old-ass Yamaha in there now can't properly pass 4K, so main driver for upgrade.

I have owned the RZ50 for over a year..its a phenominal receiver for the pricing often seen on slick deals

If you have "super power hungry" speakers...one of two things, IMO, are probably the case
1. You are buying a higher end AVR
2. You buy something like this with a plan for buying a separate amp

Have you downloaded the latest firmware and do a factory reset after? I ordered a used one from adorama and it has a noise when I switched audio but issue was gone after fw update and factory reset. THANK GOD.
You could also play the system.. order one.... then send yours back and ask for money back because it pops? Totally unethical but hey.... it's one way to get a good working product.

Please pardon me n00b-iness but I need SD help...

If I add a turntable, can I then use this receiver to broadcast to the Air Play network in the way Spotify on my phone can broadcast to my Sonos speakers on my network? I presume I can bluetooth TO this and play out of its wired speakers, but I also want to play vinyl FROM this to my network speakers.

The Sonos Port is $450 (~ $350 refurb) but why buy a Port when for a bit more I can get a receiver like this?

Yeah all firmware updates etc. It wasn't popping like this from the get go. Ironically I only noticed it after a few updates. Haha

I kind of feel like it is slowly getting worse over time? doing it more frequently and from more types of inputs? might have to test out whatever warranty this thing has
