They dont track on the kids plan. In their T&C
Hard stop has been my experience.
Seems like the infinimobile 12 month 5gb plan for $60 that keeps popping up occasionally would be a better deal...that however is 2500 minutes and texts a month. I'd certainly consider the free plan for the free 3GB of data a month as additional data since I do have a dual sim phone and it can auto switch based on availability.

Been using Helium for well over a year now on their $5 unltd plan and it's been great. No issues. If they still have this plan next January I'll move my daughter to it once her current tracfone plan ends.
first time hearing about this MNVO, what $5 unlimited plan are you on? My free year with Spectrum Mobile is almost up, and need to find a paid plan.

you can port out of Spectrum for a hot min and the unlimited free year promo will pop up on your account again within a day. Then you can port back in for another free year.

You're welcome

this looks like a solid deal. glad to hear about a new MVNO - I had no idea about Helium. their free standard plan sounds too good to be true - I know a few older folks in my fam who're light mobile users & it'd be perfect for them. they're currently on Mint Mobile.
looks like this MVNO uses TMo too - can anyone comment if Helium service, speed etc is comparable to Mint?

interesting, looks like new customers can still get the free year promo. do you have to be a Spectrum internet customer and/or live in a Spectrum covered area if you just want to avail their mobile phone service? do you have to sign a multi-year contract?

How do I get a free line?
i checked my app and it didn't mention anything, but I googled it and you can either join their wait list, or get referred by a current member.

no f'ing way! when I speak to Spectrum reps, they all say that our IMEI is 'stored' and we can only use the promo once.

do you have to port out for the offer to appear back onto your account? Or will calling retention give some sort of offer?

Not sure. I ported out and got it. I didn't talk to CS about cancelling and retention offers.

I've used helium mobile for 2 years. Deployed multiple hotspots. I'm not an expert by any means but feel free to ask me a question. It's been pretty good for us

What does it mean by "deployed multiple hotspots?"

do all the plans require you to run their app with location turned on? I want to use this for an elder parent that is always home and only use phone calls for emergencies. The rest of the time they can facetime, looks like the perfect plan.

If you want to give them privacy, then just install the app and login with their phone number on a burner phone that you keep elsewhere. As long as Helium detects location data for that phone number, it'll satisfy the location tracking requirement for the free line. Doesn't matter if it's not logging on the correct phone itself.

$5 + $4.05tx for me in WV.

Whoa that tax is cray cray.

If going the ultra cheap route, tempted to just put the kids on the free Helium plan since most calls are gonna be data anyways via FaceTime, FB, WhatsApp, etc. Don't care about anonymized location data.

We've been on their free plan for a month with a spare family phone. You can turn your old spare devices into functional phones for free. Wild. Good for the young kids to borrow or use in a pinch, to loan to guests who visit from out of the country, to take as a backup when traveling, etc. No issues so far but admittedly it's light use.
