The DRX3.4 is essentially the TX-NR7100 with added pre-outs and a 5 yr warranty. Ive not owned the Denon, but based on the specs and my needs the DRX would be my clear choice. The DIRAC room correction is superior to that included with the Denon (so I read). At this price, you really cant go wrong. Forgot to mention, I really love how it sounds as well!

That's another plus for current Denon/Marantz models with preamp mode.

I'm using the 3800 as a pre pro also.
After a 2+ hour movie, you would never guess it was on.
My external amps run very cool, couldn't tell they were on either.

Hopefully when ART gets released to it here soon, they do a promotional sale.
I probably don't need it but if it's close to $200 I might try it out.

Looking for advice. My home is wired for speakers but they're not installed, so I need a compatible receiver/amp to start. I notice that this one has zone 2 and 3 outputs, but they're marked as "pre/line out" - so does that mean that to use this then I would need to add an amplifier? Outside the main room, I think that there's 10 speakers total, two per area.
If this isn't something that would work, what should I be looking for?

How will it compare to Denon 4400? Will it be an upgrade in sound or mainly the updated features

This is really a personal preferance type of question. I've owned different Denon, Sony, Yamaha and Onkyo models thoughout the years and personally, I prefer the Onkyo (Integra) sound quality. But that's me.

Dirac is the reason people favor this receiver & people often say it's "better" than Audyssey.
With the advent of A1EVO people are quickly finding out that's no longer the case.
In general it gives you all the performance of both DL & DLBC all for $20!
Having used/own both, the rave reviews on A1EVO are spot on in my experience!

If you're looking at this for Dirac as an upgrade, you kinda already have it and it only cost $20!

Is it worth paying $170 extra compared to Denon AVR-X1700H to get this AVR? I only have 5 + 2 setup. 2 is in separate zone.
