If you're of tall or stout build (I'm 6' 200#) nobody blinks twice letting you on while all the wheelies have to get checked. OTOH, if you're smaller (wife is 5'1 on a tall day) you might get some side glances, and once she was even informed she had to check her bag despite my walking through with essentially the same pack and not a single word. If you do have to stow it, the zip-up back flap that covers the shoulder straps and hip belt makes for a smooth, nearly snagless profile for automated luggage handling safety.
NOTE: if you're not an organization fiend like me, and want a daypack/underseat "personal" item, I'd spend the extra $40 and get the 55L Version [amazon.com]. That's a 40L Farview with a 15L daypack that is designed to piggyback, strapping in place quite nicely - though it does move the center of gravity of the system a bit far back. Definitely a traveler walking to a hotel/hostel configuration and not an Appalachian Trail through hiker rig. The downside to the 15L is that is has limited internal organization pockets - not quite as bare bones as a stuff pack (not by a long shot) but you're not going to get 16 built in pouches and pockets like you will with something like the Everki Studio [everki.com], but it's a might bit less expensive too. The differences in the 40L vs 40L that comes with the 15L pack are mainly that the laptop sleeve is in the 15L, leaving more room in the main pack. I think there may be one other difference...but it escapes me at the moment.
Anyway, after a dozen or so trips across the US and Europe, I give this pack top marks.

carry a 15.6 laptop + 13 inch surface pro, a mirrorless camera with two lens
FWIW this Everki Studio [everki.com] pack is my one-bag travel kit for personal-item-only travel. It has two velour-lined sleeves (15/16" laptop and 13" tablet), two interior plain pockets, an exterior zip, two expandable water bottle slots (I use one for my sunglasses/spare glasses), an external zip pocket, front zip flap with lots of organization, and zippers strap pocket. Cons: The zipper-expansion (18->26L) is not great, as it only expands the bottom of the pack (like a teardrop), it doesn't have bedroll straps at the bottom, and its pricey for its size. I got mine second hand/open box for about $100. It easily fits underseat, and (in the 18L configuration) slides into a United personal item sizer when stuffed to the gills. I've only had mine for about 8 months, so I can't talk to it's long term durability, but it's still in nearly-new shape after more than a dozen air segments. Depending on your camera insert, it might be a good pack.
For fear of coming across as a high-priced snob, I'll offer that my interior organization for one-bag travel includes a $4 roll-up toiletry bag, $3 compression bag for clothing, a $1 5L polyester/tpu drybag for wet things and washing clothes, and a $1.50 zipper pouch for first aid gear, and a $2 "purse" organizer for storage in the pack - all bought from TEMU. (The latter I had to re-sew all the seams with kevlar thread, but I've not found a better organized item at any price; I'd happily pay $60 for a ballistic nylon version)
The actual value of this Osprey bag is around $20 or $30 max . I have paid around same price for other brands and they have been wokring fine for the last 10 yrs.
Just be sure to get an identical one to the one you have and keep them in two different places so she's never aware you have two.

Having said that, I'm a harsh critic because the previous Farpoint 40 was just so darn good. All the Osprey gear I've owned is extremely solidly built and this is still a good deal for a good travel backpack if you won't miss the features of the older version.

I wish I could think of a reason to buy this deal, but I don't see the one I have wearing out any time soon (and I use it a lot).
