Keep in mind that the M2 series chips are the ones where 512GB storage runs faster than 256GB storage. They fixed this for M3 and M4.

Scenario 1- you'd rather not spend an extra $150
Scenario 2- you want something brand new.

Pretty good list so far huh

Why is this being upvoted when M3 was exactly this price a few weeks ago.
I know we can't go back in time but there's a chance that price will be repeated.

well I will give you a good reason not to get the M2. Turns out the audio board used a poor capacitor that dies frequently. When that happens, it no longer boots. Had to pay Apple $150 to fix it. Google it and you will see that it is a rather frequent occurence, after about 18 months, so after the 1 year warranty.

$631.79 at MicroCenter for at least a week. Sold several at that price point.

being a rational human being, I would never own one of these novelty brand laptops- but curious, what is the reasoning behind this company offering such small storage space in a laptop? a 256gb nvme drive is what, like $25? a 1tb nvme pcie 4 drive at consumer pricing is around $70- let alone wholesale discounts being manufactured right down the road from each other in Shenzhen. seems pointless to even offer a 256gb model.

They want you to subscribe to icloud for more storage, same as their phones.

Hard to think of a scenario in which it wouldn't be worth the extra $150 to buy a refurbished M4 from Apple.
Brand new M4 with matching specs is this price on Amazon at the moment

The 16GB M4 MacBook Air 13" corresponding model is $899, so in exchange for perhaps 20% less speed, but otherwise pretty similar characteristics, you save $200, or a bit more than 20% of the purchase price. Only you can determine if that's worthwhile. Yes, perhaps 2 years fewer MacOS support lifetime too. I don't see the disk speeds difference as terribly significant, but ymmv on that too.
I do see the M2 - M4 MBAs as 'better than' the M1 MBA, as the M1 has a slightly older form factor. Aside from that, it's tough to differentiate them except for the 10% or so per iteration standard generational updates one gets per year.
For those who want to spend the lowest amount of money, I can fully see the logic and can fully understand and agree.

It has nothing to do with the CPU. Apple switched back so 256GB of storage option again uses two 128GB NAND flash chips

$897 on Amazon for me... yes, some might get 5% back for young adults Prime, some might get 5% back for Visa Prime use, etc., but the core price before discounts is same as Microcenter and others, yes?
