I have an older Yamaha they claimed worked with Alexa but it's through Music Cast an doesn't actually work properly and just allows unit control nothing else.
Specifically if you can tell Alexa to play say a playlist you have saved on Amazon music and it actually play on the receiver?

I asked AI and it recommended I upgrade from my current Yamaha RX-A770 to the RX-A4A only if I'm not satisfied. It didn't give me enough info to take the plunge and purchase so wondering if anyone out there can offer first-hand advice....

TLDR is the early models used a MCU to weak/without enough embedded features to fully implement the Alexa firmware.
Anything released newer than 2018 ish will have full alexa support. I have a RX-A2080, RX-A2A and a RX-V4A. All show up to Alexa as full supported audio endpoints, so i can do things like create a room, set the receiver to the preferred music endpoint, so when i simply ask Alexa "Play dance music" the receiver comes on, switches to the "Alexa" source, and starts playing a dance station from Alexa Music.
It still has to "link" to alexa through the musiccast skill, but thats mainly authentication. What were you worried about support wise?
Anyone know if it's worth upgrading to this? I bought the denon originally to scale analog inputs to 4K digital, but I now longer need that feature
It really blows that the receiver's output display doesn't work in 4K mode with a 4K TV...that feature was reserved for the X3300+ models and all models that came out the year after)
