I asked before and haven't seen it confirmed that these are good from the factory.
I believe this product line is about 4 years old now, surely we get a refresh w/in next 12 months.
edit: the A & B footnotes seem to be gone from the Yamaha product page, so maybe the HDMI chip issue (and firmware issue) is fixed for new units. Unclear if Adorama has the affected units or not.

This or Denon AVR-X3800H (Refurbished) for $974.25?
Thanks for any input.

1st keep in mind this only processes 7 channels, other two 11 channels.
Hands down the 3800 offers the most out of the three.
Some that aren't offered on the other two:
Independent sub outs(4), all assignable channels, preamp mode(3800 all 11 independently), Dirac(Yamaha), Dirac's sub/bass integration RC DLBC(RZ50),rumored Dirac ART RC next year, bass shakers integration.
Popular opinion that Dirac is the best and that RZ50 has Dirac Live rolled into(included) but you don't get offered the other half of that best.
Audyssey is very good also and they just added directional sub setting which works like DLBC, this is included on the 3800.
Not to mention options to MultEQ-X and now Audyssey One EVO script.
You only pay for Dirac if you choose to.
Whether any of these things are important is a personal choice.
Hope that helps.
Just ordered, thanks for the find

I have a 5.2.2 setup in a room that doesn't allow any option to go 7.2.4 or even 5.2.4, so no need for more than 7 channel processing. A lightning strike to my house just ruined my RX-A1080. Even though I don't need the extra channels, I'm leaning towards the X3800 for the independent sub outputs and Audyssey MultEQ XT32 with the option of A1 Evo. Should get me close to Dirac without the expense. Stories of Onkyo not being built as well or lasting as long have me shying away from the RZ50, plus I would give up independent sub control. I have identical Outlaw LFM-1 Plus subs, though, so maybe independent sub control isn't that important.
One last option I have is a lightly used RX-A3080 for $650. I would gain power, but lose the better room correction of Audyssey or even the newer YPAO.
Which receiver do you think you would choose for my situation?
Thanks again.

Both are great brands.
Check Craigslist/offer up/FB marketplace. I was able to get an A4a for $500. Denons are more for used as they have better rep for enthusiasts
I'd never get an Onkyo...they are junk now inside...so sad as pre 2010 they were rock solid.

Assuming you're considering the 3800 because you read Audyssey/Dirac is better than YPAO and not from experience.
I would vote for the 3080.
People like to say Audyssey and or Dirac are better. doesn't mean YPAO is bad.
Yamaha doesn't offer either and people still choose them.
If I remember correctly, the 3080s two sub outs are independent fyi.
Btw matching subs is only one factor of many on why independent sub outs matter to people.

The only thing that I wish it had was one more channel for Atmos height. DIRAC would be nice, but it's a great sounding receiver as is with the newer YAPO. Also I saw someone mentioned it doesn't have pre-outs, that's wrong it has them.
You definitely get more features with the Z50, but IMO it's a quality over quantity conversation. I think a good comp would be the Yamaha is a higher mid level Toyota and the Onkyo is a pimped out Nissan or something along those lines.
I got the A4A the last time it was $800. I see the Z50 is on sale for the same price and I'm not regretting choice. But I could see why someone would feel the same way about the Z50.
