Can someone help me? My wife works from home now and currently uses one monitor that she just connects to the laptop using the HDMI output. Simple enough. Now she wants to extend it to a second monitor. Is this what she needs? Or do I need to connect an HDMI splitter to the laptop HDMI output? Thanks

HDMI Splitter will not work for your use case. For this Sabrent one to work, the USB Type-C port on her laptop needs to support DisplayPort Alt Mode, which is relatively common for laptops released in the past few years.

Ask her employer to buy her a dock.

A spliiter will display the same image on both screens. Yes, this will work for you, provided you have a free usbc port on the laptop, an HDMI cable, and a screen with an HDMI port. Now all you need is DP alt support mode, which is very likely you do have. Google "is dp alt mode support common" and go through the AI recomendations to determine if you have it. Or... just buy it, try it. For only $10 you can gamble on something that may pay off dividends. It's litterally less than a burger at some places.

why are all these dongles only support 60 Hz whereas most laptops are now 120 Hz or better refresh rate?

There are dongles supporting 120hz or better, just that they're more expensive at $20+ (not sure if they go on sale or not, for example:

This is what I have been looking for, but will it work with ipad or Samsung s25 Ultra? Will it drain a lot of battery since we can't charge while using this. I wanted to use it to watch downloaded youtube videos or stream netflix using VPN without making major changes to my TV's settings.
