This is most likely typical price or fair price. Not a slick deal.

40Gbps vs 10Gbps. Also, different controller.

I was about to get one, but a deeper dive into reddit said that because of the controller, I'll only get TB3/4 speeds if on Mac or with 12th gen or higher Intel chipsets. My laptop is 10th gen Intel, so I figure I'll find something else.

Happy with mine. Got it last week

Tested on M1 Studio.

This case with a Sammy 990 Pro 4TB gets better numbers than the internal drive.

That's a win.

I really doubt that the gigantic case size relative to the tiny m.2 card is necessary for heat dissipation.
I have this one and another Orico one, a bit smaller with much smaller "fins" https://www.amazon.com/ORICO-Encl...C75J/?th=1
The UGREEN runs about 10 C degrees cooler. Orico was having the nvme run around 53 C and go up to 60+ at heavier load so I ended up running a small USB fan to cool it down.

I was researching NVMe enclosures last week and this one was over $100 on Amazon. Someone else in the deals forum said this one is the gold standard. Looked at some youtube videos and it had very positive reviews.
AT this price I would get the one from OWC. What you get from OWC is an American company, excellent design and tech support. I have called/contacted them several times with excellent support. I am not a shill, just a happy repeat customer. I run a SN850X which is a hot NVMe. No issues.

But embarrassing for The Church of Jobs (and a reminder why Windows is the only smart choice).

How does this enclosure differ from the $15 Orico one I can get on Amazon?
My laptop has usb c with the lightening rod icon. If yours does then it means it's 40, if it's SS then it's like 10.

I had it for a month. Was duped by the "gold standard" stories. Connected via Thunderbolt, with industrial-grade, DRAM-enabled, 2TB SK hynix inside. Speeds as advertised. No overheating at max speeds. But... constant disconnects. Mac M4 Pro goes to sleep - disconnect. Another Thunderbolt port gets connected - disconnect again. Reddit is full of debates on how to "cure" the problem. The only solution is to never let drives go to sleep and to use Amphetamine (or similar) package to prevent Mac from going to sleep as a whole. I've got tired of Mac constantly running, without even being allowed to go into "power nap" mode, so I got rid of it, and bought a Satechi one instead. That one constantly "seeps" microscopic amount of power to maintain Thunderbolt link active, and now I haven't seen a single disconnect in many months. They all use the same ASM controller chip, only Satechi has some extra circuit to keep Thunderbolt "active" all the time. Problem solved.
Do you have a link for the Satechi model?
