One issue is that the keys themselves don't light up but if you know your way around a keyboard the backlight bottom is enough.

I came here to mention the same keyboard. I used one as a gaming keyboard for about a year and loved it. Sure it's not a mechanical keyboard but the action is magnificent and much better than you would expect from a membrane keyboard. I hate to tell you but it's been on sale and still is on sale at woot for $16.99. Just arrived, yeah it's membrane. Has all the trappings of a mechanical keyboard except the switches. If you want something that looks like a mechanical keyboard, but still prefer membrane, this is for you. As for me, this is 100% going to be a return.
Did something lead you to believe this was going to be a mechanical keyboard? It is one of the best membrane keyboards on the market. Certainly in that price range. Sounds like that one is on you.
