for what it's worth, I still love my Gen 1 version that I just picked up for $15 as a Christmas gift. I thought it was worth it at the original $80 price tag.

I have an older model, from when it was called the Govee Immersion. Mine only uses a single camera, but it works very well. I've had mine for about 2 years. I would imagine this works even better. I love mine and can never go back to watching anything without backlighting. Just calibrate it correctly, and turn the color saturation down to 1% (Trust me. It's way more natural, and still gets saturated when the actual color on screen is saturated). The camera doesn't need to be attached to the TV, either. Some people hide the camera in a little bowl of rocks under the TV. It just needs to be able to see the screen. Even my older one is very responsive. It puts the color out the moment it sees it. Obviously it's not quite instantaneous, like a massively more expensive Philips Hue sync box and light set, but it's about as fast as it possibly can be, considering it has to see an image before portraying a color. It's not a delay you'd notice unless you're actually staring at the lights. As long as you're paying attention to the show/movie or game you're watching, you won't notice, and it'll add depth. The nice thing about having a camera is it works with anything. You can't use a sync box with built-in TV apps. I know that's not a problem for everyone, but I prefer LG's built-in apps, over my AppleTV 4K, because LG's apps have significantly better audio. Seriously, test it out. It's crazy how much louder and clearer LG's built in apps are for audio, compared to external devices. Not sure that's the case with every TV brand. There is another option for sync box backlighting, called FancyLED, which is cheaper than Philips Hue, but it's still more than this, especially depending on if you get one with more HDMI ports or HDMI 2.1. I digressed quite a bit, but moral of the story is, I love my Govee lighting, and I'm actually considering upgrading to this, even though mine is in perfect working order.

So instead of going the Philips Hue Sync route they are going with cameras you have to mount that "read" the screen and adjust for that. I'm assuming this is to get around having to pay to license things like HDCP. I can't see the colors being as accurate as the Hue which is reading the actual HDMI information and displaying based on that but it's definitely a lot cheaper. If my Hue sync stuff ever dies it might be worth looking into but I don't know if I could stand having those cameras hanging off the TV.

I have the Govee Gen 1 and the reason why I went that route vs a Phillips HUE, is the HDMI box Phillips required. I use the apps on my LG TV for streaming services and at the time the HUE sync app wasn't available. If I used HUE HDMI box, I wouldn't have been able to use my native LG TV apps. Leaving me the need to find an alternative streaming hub (like ROKU) to plug into the HUE. Govee allowed a pretty simple plug and play method. And the camera is not noticeable at all. I completely forget it's even there.

May I ask which model that was to try and buy one for me as well?
You might as well go for this one. The Gen 1 was called Govee Envisual, which is the one I have. I would say the comparable model now is the Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite, but for the price, go for this one. At this point the Gen 1 is more than three years old, and while I still love mine, at times I feel like upgrading.

looks like they're clearing out the 2 camera version as now they have a 3 camera version. i still have the 1 camera version for the 85" qn90a and it works good or the most part but 3 cameras will prob be much more accurate.

How well would this work for a TV mounted on a stone fireplace?

Someone help me here... If one has a deeply recessed hole behind a 98" wall mounted LED with multiple/ 2 rows of edge to edge shelves for a blu ray player, tivo and a bunch of other gaming and av stuff- will this throw off the colors the Govee puts out since there's technically no flat wall directly behind the tv?

All the hardware is behind the tv with nothing visible on the outside for a clean & minimalistic look although it stretches from one end to another. Not really sure if it's worth shelling $150 if all the hardware behind the tv will lead to a diminished experience.

Thanks!

I would say so. I have the gen 1 on my tv in the living room and use dream view to light up some shelves next to the tv with the same colors as the TV. Really nice and adds to the immersion IMO.
