I actually just did this with another drive I bought last year. It sat on the shelf and then just last month I decided to replace a 3TB drive I bought 10 years ago, not wanting wait for it to die. Just hadn't really thought then about any consequences of sitting on the shelf. Thanks for the answer. I Google it a bit and it does seem like it's good to sit, provided it's in a semi stable, dry environment.
