Looks like shucking is back! Finally a price on a new drive that gives used drive pricing a run for its money. In for 2, thanks!

Anyone see a problem with buying this and letting sit on a shelf for a long time? Say a year or two? It's the perfect size for my unraid array, (already have one of these exact drives in there already) but I don't need it right now. But kind of want to have a cold spare sitting around for when my old 6TB drive bites the dust.

While Seagate has 26TB at a similar price, is Seagate worse than WD on reliability?

No, that's exactly what I do when I find these WD deals. My closet is filled with them. Remux and TV series fill them up fast.

Nope, no problem doing that.I preclear drives first (its a good test of the drive) and let it sit as an Unassigned Device. Once you are ready, stop the array and assign it and good to go.

Yeah, too good a deal not to buy first, ask questions later lol. Thanks for the input.

100% smart tests and preclear so it's ready to go and weeds out any problems while I can still return it lol. Thanks yep, just purchased. I actually just did this with another drive I bought last year. It sat on the shelf and then just last month I decided to replace a 3TB drive I bought 10 years ago, not wanting wait for it to die. Just hadn't really thought then about any consequences of sitting on the shelf. Thanks for the answer. I Google it a bit and it does seem like it's good to sit, provided it's in a semi stable, dry environment.
