If you are painting inside walls that have a funk to them (smoke, mildew, permanent wet dog stench,etc), you should use the version that mentions it is odor blocking. I started painting my kitchen when I first moved in and the prior owner had two large dogs that she crated in the corner of the kitchen. The latex paint "woke up" the dog smell that was embedded in the walls. I hit it that area with the Kilz odor blocker variety and my kitchen no longer smells like wet dirty dog. Can't recommend highly enough. There's a reason that version never seems to be on sale, pretty sure it dominates the market for that purpose.

There's one available in store near me (5g)...only if delivered for another $79! Absolutely absurd! I know for a fact they have dozens in store.
