This Ryobi ONE plus starter kit stands out for the free tool angle and the flexibility to hack the deal by choosing pickup locations. The compact 2.0 amp hour battery is still useful for lighter tasks, and the included charger may be better than similar offers. The strongest free-tool picks include brushless or pricier tools like the fan, angle grinder, and clamp speaker. The main drawbacks are the reduced battery value versus older bundles, slow charging, and checkout glitches where the free tool does not always price to zero.
Homeowners doing light repairs who want a compact 2.0Ah battery, because it is handy for smaller tasks and stays easy to carry.
Yes. Keep lithium-ion batteries around the middle of their charge range when possible, avoid leaving them on the charger for days or weeks, and avoid letting them sit dead for long periods. Storing them indoors also helps reduce wear.
No, the free tool may not appear as $0 until both items are added to the cart, and even then the discount can fail to apply in checkout. The deal is effectively a hackable bundle, so you may need to use the cart flow carefully or try a different pickup setup.
No, the included batteries are standard ONE+ batteries, not HP batteries. The HP packs are the higher-performance option, and a separate $140 bundle with 4Ah and 6Ah HP batteries is available if you want larger-capacity batteries.
The charger is described as very low output, around 0.5 to 1 mAh, so charging a 6Ah battery can take roughly 6 to 12 hours. A different $99 bundle is said to have a better charger.
Don't charge fully, that's the trick to keep the battery health if you are not using frequently. Keep it at 3/4 capacity if you can, it helps a lot
Yup, 100% and 0% are both okay for the short term, but cause early battery death if left that way too long - so stay in the middle. That means avoid leaving it sitting on the charger for days or weeks and avoid running it down to dead and not charging it for days or weeks.

Too much effort to remember to unplug or remove battery before it's 100%. Should be fine as long as you just remove it in the evening.
I bought one 2-3 years ago. Barely used it, and one of them is dead already. Will not charge at all. Really surprised.
I had one set from 5 years ago, and one battery just died (other doing fine). Didn't use it much either. Not sure if around 5 years is what we should expect from them.
There used to be deals where you could return the tool and keep battery for less price. Not in a hurry so should I wait for that deal?

There's a similar deal at HD but for $139 you get a 6.0 & a 4.0 plus charger and free tool. Can hack it for like $89 for the battery pack/charger, prob less with other tools

I just saw that deal. You trade up a size in one battery, lose the charger, and pay $40 extra. Seems like an ok trade off but I wonder if I have any use. I do light gardening work and light household installation/repairs. Decisions…
