This 16 gallon Ridgid shop vacuum stands out for strong suction, long-term durability, and a generous accessory bundle that makes the roughly $60 price feel close to worth it. It handles heavy cleanup well, from drywall dust and sanding to HVAC drain lines, and the HEPA kit with bags is especially useful for fine dust. The main drawbacks are size and noise, since it is bulky to store and transport and can be very loud. A solid workhorse if you have room for it.

homeowners and HVAC techs who want to vacuum AC/sc drip or drain lines a couple times a year because commenters specifically reminded to vacuum the AC drip lines about twice a year and noted the wet/dry vac approach (after removing the paper filter) and practical setup tips for those exterior PVC drain lines.
social_gamer social_gamer
DIYers doing drywall repair or popcorn removal who need fine-dust cleanup because multiple commenters said they love the HEPA kit for fine dust and that HEPA filters/bags were indispensable for that kind of cleanup.
JB7876 JoeS1881
garage and workshop users who need a loud, high-suction shop vac for machine hookups because commenters described it as a "workhorse" with strong suction and even said it can be powerful enough to lift carpet off the floor (useful for heavy-duty shop cleanup).
MidwestDIY JB7876
shop owners who keep a larger wet/dry vac in the basement/shop for bigger jobs (like sanding a wall) because one commenter said it mainly stays in the basement/shop and they only lug it out for larger tasks, using a smaller 3-4 gal vac for quick house jobs.
NathanielB6815
people who want a wet/dry vac with strong long-term reliability because one user reported a lifetime warranty and fast replacement after a motor failure, with suction still going strong years later.
Masterchi

people who are sensitive to noise or plan to use the vac in enclosed spaces because commenters said it's definitely louder than a regular home vacuum and recommended ear protection, and one user called it the loudest machine in their shop with a high-pitched shrill sound that was grating even with ear protection.
a_blind_sniper Electricalsushi
buyers who need something easy to store or frequently transport because multiple commenters said it takes up lots of space and is a hassle to take in and out of storage/transport.
NathanielB6815 NeatKnob576
homeowners who want to use it for large carpet areas because one commenter said the suction is strong enough to lift the carpet right off the floor, making it difficult to use over a large area.
JB7876
people who need to run a very complex duct path with tight 90-degree turns and convoluted routing because a commenter asked whether this vac can handle 90-degree turns and convoluted routing through rigid and flexible foil-like sections in an older house setup.

Common Questions (4)

Yes. Multiple long-term owners report years of reliable use, including units still running well after 4-10 years and one replacement sent quickly under a lifetime warranty after motor failure. The main downside is the size, not durability.
jeff44jeff Masterchi NeatKnob576 JoeS1881
Yes. It can be used to vacuum HVAC condensate/drip lines, but the internal dry filter should be removed before sucking up liquids. The exterior drain line is typically a white PVC pipe a few inches off the ground, and reaching the unit to blow it out can be awkward in tight spaces.
social_gamer social_gamer frosty9 defender0802
It is large and takes up a lot of space, so many keep it in a basement or shop and use a smaller 3-4 gallon vac for quick household jobs. The tradeoff is strong suction and a useful accessory set.
jony NathanielB6815 DaveC4644
It is very loud, with reports of a high-pitched, shrill sound that is louder than a regular home vacuum. Ear protection is recommended, especially in enclosed spaces.

Remove the dry/wet vac filter inside the vac before attempting to suck up liquids. Some vacs come with a cover to protect the filter. The hvac/sc drip/drain line should be outside your home usually a white pvc pipe a few inches off the ground. Some hvac techs blow down/out the line from the unit but it is not easy to lug the wetvac there and set it to blow due to space restrictions.

Where you gonna store this beast? Better to wait for sale on a 10 gallon.

My ac doesn't have a trap. Unit is in the basement and drains into a condensate pump.

Can you use this to clean dryer vent? Mine is pretty long and I think there's a partial clog. I blasted a leaf blower in it which might be better than using this dry vac

Got this last year or the year before for the same price. Worth it, but yes it is big. This mainly stays in the basement/shop and I lug it around for bigger jobs (like sanding a wall). I have a small 3-4 gallon I use for the quick jobs the house vac won't handle.

Best shop vac I've ever owned. Got mine on a deal 4 years ago and it's still running great. Since then I have bought/gifted 2 more and received positive feedback from them as well.
