all of the cruise carriers have now started putting in the contract that these are not allowed on board and will be confiscated if found in luggage.

There are esim that works with cruise ships depend on destinations. The one I know worked is gigsky. Check their cruise ship plans. https://www.gigsky.com/data-cruises-cruises-only

Cruise ships are banning these to protect their revenue stream. You won't have to wonder if you just check the prohibited list in the FAQ of the cruise line you are intending to use.

Is anyone expecting it to get any cheaper?
I never imagined it would go lower than $299 when I bought mine so perhaps

Thanks! I just bought one from Best Buy last week. They also lowered their price to $230. Price matched and received a refund for the difference

I bought last month, but was just outside of both my return and price match window at Best Buy. Frown

Oh well.

This is really great information and mirrors some of my use case. I intend to run it off of an Ecoflow when necessary. I'll pick up the car adapter and look at other options.
On road trips that's what I've been doing to keep it online during quick stops where I need to turn off my truck (my 12V cigarette lighter port shuts down with accessory power). In my service truck I have a an Anker 100W type-C adapter that I just leave plugged in as my port stays online there. I usually only see about 20-50W draw, and am not parked long enough for any meaningful voltage drop on the starter battery.

I ordered from Home Depot via the AAFES site and received my Mini on October 7th. I called Home Depot support today, November 10th, and they're refunding me the $70 difference. I didn't bring up the 30-day verbiage, just the fact I wanted a price adjustment, which they did. One of the few phone painless calls I've dealt with recently.
Home depot has a 90 day return policy. You can price match it up to 90 days or return and rebuy.

Be sure to check the fees on starlink.com when you input your address. My area is apparently now "high demand" and they want a one-time $1000 fee to start a new account.

I live in a somewhat rural area so had been thinking about getting this to activate Roam w/standby just when I need it, but apparently they don't want my business.
Whoa, that's quite a bit. I wonder if you'd be able to start your service at a different address without the fee. Since you're going with the Roam plan anyway, you won't really have any restrictions on where you go after activating.

You can power Starlink mini using your power station 120V AC outlet, and power your power station using car 12V outlet if necessary. Then you might not need to buy the car adapter.

Oh, by the way, if you want to buy an aftermarket USB-C cable to connect your power station and Starlink mini, make sure the one USB-C port on your power station supports at least 100W.

With a referral link you can get a free month of service when purchased through Starlink, not sure if that would apply for a store-bought dish. I live in a congested area and there is a $1,000 fee for the standard dish but nothing for the mini roaming dish.

Not per their policy online, "Yes, we offer a price adjustment if the price of an item you purchased drops within 30 days of the purchase date. You can request a refund for the difference by providing proof of the original purchase and evidence of the lower price. This can be done in-store or through customer service for online purchases."

Nonetheless, I had planned on returning it if the call center representative wouldn't help me. In addition, they have a 30-day electronics return too, but the Starlink Mini page says 90 days. Land of contradictions, but it worked out for me.

I just did the same thing, over chat, and they didn't say again about being over 30 days. I also received mine on the 7th.

Hell yeah

Ah, my bad, as someone pointed out there's no fee (they don't ask address) if you try to sign up for Roam, only the residential plan. I didn't realize they don't ask for an address as a predicate for getting Roam service.

In for one. Thanks for the post! I purchased the larger Gen 3 kit and placed it in my house. Initially wanting to tote that around, but circumstances didn't allow it. With this, I can put it in my backpack or vehicle and get going reliably. $5 bucks a month for maintenance mode is an absolute no-brainer for me. Especially if we can text and call from anywhere in the US.
Do we need to pay for a $50/mo plan for the first month before putting it into maintenance mode? Or how does that work? 500Kbps unlimited for maintenance mode, correct?
