Anyone know:
* Can these be shucked or are they connectors soldered on?
* Are the 14 TB and 20 TB SMR or are they still CMR?

I bought one last month. They are binned Hitachi aka hc enterprise drives so they do not get the speed as retail. They also can be easily shucked and they are cmr drives. I believe they only have 1 year warranty.

Good model if I plan to use as desktop expansion drive (not shucking)?

Pre-pandemic these were $200 on sale. After that, prices flattened so here we are, many years later and they are still $170. By now, should be 20TB for $200.

was this purely due to crazy inflation?

I shucked a lot of these in 8 packs for my NAS. My experience is that they dont fail one at a time but go in groups. If I buy 8 I may see 2 or 3 all fail in a 4+ week period
